Third World Band Remembers "The Cool Ruler" Gregory Isaacs

New York, NY: On Monday, October 25, 2010, reggae fans around the world received the news of the passing of one of reggae music's great contributors, Gregory Isaacs. News articles reported that Isaacs lost his battle with lung cancer at the age of 59.

Known as the "Cool Ruler," Isaacs leaves an indelible mark on reggae lovers with hits such as 'Night Nurse,' 'Sad To Know (You're Leaving)' and 'All I Have Is Love." Isaacs is survived by his wife and children.

THIRD WORLD BAND CELEBRATES THE MEMORY OF "THE COOL RULER"

Recently, Third World Band had the opportunity to work with Gregory Isaacs on their newly released album "Patriots." Isaacs recorded a cover version of his 1980 single 'Front Door' with the band.

Cat Coore, Richard Daley and William Clark shares their thoughts: Cat Coore "the passing of Gregory Isaacs has brought great sadness to all of us who knew him personally and enjoyed his friendship through his music and his warm personality through his humanity. It is an understatement to say that Gregory was legendary, it went beyond that. His voice was unmistakable and his lyrics witty and compelling. To those of us who knew him personally he was extremely kind.

There were times when I was on tour with Gregory and he would simply just get into a mood and take those of us he loved most shopping and shower us with gifts. And then there was a side of him that sternly defended what he believed was right and he made no apologies about this.

As a singer he was one of a kind and women, in particular, loved his lover's rock style. He was a special Jamaican and will be remembered and greatly missed in Jamaican music. May God grant him safe passage to the big orchestra in the sky and provide the love and comfort to his family. But I suggest to them who knew Gregory, have a huge party and cry not for Gregory Isaacs."

In agreeing with Cat Coore, Richard "Bassie" Daley remarks, "I had really gotten to know who Gregory Isaacs was on the first Reggae Sunsplash world tour in 1985, and upon till now there hasn't been another like him, and from the look of it, I don't think there will ever be "The Cool Ruler."

William "Bunny Rugs" Clark wraps up the bands sentiments by adding, "There is no denying that Gregory was a great person and a talented artist that will forever hold a special place in our hearts. But I will always remember a phrase that he would often use - which is a favorite of mine - [You may done wid life, but life nuh done wid you.....Live On Bless]."
