Entertainers Support 'Safe Sex' Message

The World AIDS Day concert staged on Wednesday afternoon, not only brought out supporters in droves to watch the stellar lineup of artistes, but also focused on creating awareness and dispelling myths about the disease.

The concert which was staged at the National Heroes' Park, downtown, Kingston by the Ministry of Health, featured acts including: CeCile, Chino McGregor, Tifa, I-Octane, G-Whizz, Ity and fancy Cat and others.

Not only were the performances a hit with the delighted audience, but so were the constant "safe sex" messages. So much so, that many in the audience opted to take advantage of the free HIV/AIDS tests also being carried out in the park. Dancehall artiste, G-Whizz known for his tracks, Life, Night or Day, Weekend and more, said, "It felt good to be a part of that gathering where I could spread a little bit of fun and inspire people in the audience to get tested although they might be afraid to."

Dancehall artiste Chino McGregor also spoke similarly. The artiste known for Pon Yuh Head, Protected, his inspirational hit, From Mawning, and more, said, "It was a great vibe in Kingston for sure. The audience really enjoyed the music from the artistes but they were really receptive to the message about getting tested, and how to prevent becoming infected."

Jamaican entertainers weren't the only ones keen on sending a message for World AIDS Day; a number of US entertainers chose to log off twitter to observe a moment of silence for those infected with the disease, while others encouraged fans to get tested and always have safe sex.The theme for World AIDS Day 2010 was Universal Access and Human Rights.

Appleton Rum Punch, This Sunday!

The promoters of Appleton Rum Punch have pulled out all the stops for what they have dubbed, the 'first day of Christmas' on Sunday, December 5.

The day-night event which will be staged at the Liguanea Club, New Kingston, will have several exceptional 'Christmas gifts' for their patrons. These great treats will include water slides, a beach park, and a 5-star bar, phenomenal food selections like: garlic shrimp, barbecue chicken, sweet and sour fish and some of the hottest disc jocks from the island, including: ZJ Ice, ZJ Liquid, Supa Hype and Coppershot.

Event promoters, Hard Ears and Gregory Christian say, "We came up with the 'first day of Christmas' concept because we have so many great offers and and surprises for our patrons at such a minimal cost. It's really a giveaway.

Appleton Rum Punch wanted to be the first from the A-Team to kick-start the Christmas excitement and give patrons a wild time as a way of thanking them for their support over the years. So people can come out early and party all day and night and play, party, eat and have fun. They simply can't miss all that we have in store."

The A-Team which the promoters referred to, is a newly-formed group of some of the most prestigious party promoters from across the island under the Appleton banner, who have come together under one umbrella to give fans a number of superb parties. One such party will be Appleton Rum Punch, and the small cost for which, is $1200 pre-sold (females), $1500 (males and $2000 at the gate.

LIME School Tour Ends With A "So Special" Treat

Kingston, Jamaica - The LIME Campus Crew Tour finale came to quite a zesty end on the grounds of the Bridgeport High School last week Friday afternoon.

The show which commenced with performances from the students and giveaways from the telecommunications giant quickly escalated with some of the hottest performances from the island's top artistes. Among them was newcomer Denique known for her recent single, Summer Love, another newcomer, a very versatile Ikaya, the saucy Timberlee, the hilarious Tanto Blacks, the seductive Alaine and the movement-defying dance group, Shady Squad.

However it was Mavado's entrance to the stage which created sheer pandemonium. Students raced from all corners of the school's campus to catch a glimpse of one of dancehall's most celebrated artistes and they weren't disappointed. During his brief set he declared it was his first school tour and "me waah say big up to LIME fi dat."

Other showstoppers for the afternoon included T.O.K who showed their immense talent and why they have maintained their fan-base and have become known as some of the youngest veterans in the industry; talented singer/songwriter and performer Big Ship's, Chino McGregor; the capable Khago and the already superb entertainer, young QQ.

Over the weeks the tour visited a number of schools including Waterford High, Portmore Heart Academy, Portmore Community College, Cumberland High School, Ascot High School and more. Each school received free internet for one year and computers courtesy of LIME.
