Freddie McGregor Tells Why “A House Is Not A Home”

March 2, 2011 - Kingston, Jamaica - Singer, and Grammy nominee, Freddie McGregor, widely known for his intense singles Big Ship (Sailing On The Ocean), Push Come To Shove, I Was Born A Winner, Stop Loving You and a plethora of best-selling tracks, has released a romantic new single, A House Is Not A Home.

A House Is Not A Home which was made popular in a cover version by Luther Vandross, was re-done and produced with a reggae twist by ace producers, Cleveland 'Clevie' Browne and Wycliffe 'Steely' Johnson. Prior to passing away in New York in September 2009, Steely laid the drums for the track at Clevie’s home studio. The single will be released on Steely and Clevie’s upcoming compilation album, aptly called, Memories.

There is also an instrumental version of A House is Not a Home with Steely on keyboard and Dean Fraser playing saxophone. Freddie who returned from the United Kingdom last week, said, “The song has a great smooth vibe to it. Anyone who has ever been in love and lost that person would be able to identify with the song. We released the single a few weeks ago and so far it has been receiving rotation, not only on the more adult contemporary stations, but also a lot of the stations that cater to the younger audience.”

“…That was important to us when we embarked on this project because the album, Memories, which will feature a lot of reggae remakes of popular R&B songs, is our way of not only paying tribute to reggae greats, but also introducing this generation to a wider variety of music,” concluded Freddie.

Freddie is scheduled to leave the island this weekend with the rest of the Big Ship crew. They will return for their concert, "Tunn Up St. Catherine", which will take place at the Dinthill Technical High School next week Friday, followed by the STAR’s Tribute series at New Kingston’s Club Impulse on Saturday night.
