Mr.Vegas Tops MTV Base Africa Dancehall Chart

International dancehall artiste Mr. Vegas has taken control of the number one spot on the MTV Base Africa Dancehall chart in Africa with the song Sweet Jamaica. The song also features Shaggy and veteran dancehall artiste Josey Wales.

In a release to the media, Vegas thanked the fans and the media especially the radio disc jocks and sound system selectors for their continued support of his work.

“The success of any song cannot be achieved without the support of the fans and the media and I would like to thank everyone for embracing my work over the years,” Vegas stated.

He added, “Sweet Jamaica was written by Indra from Barbados. She sent me the song right away I knew it was a hit. The country was going through a difficult time when I recorded the song. The video that we did was to show the world that Jamaica is a beautiful country no matter what.”

Sweet Jamaica is also impacting the reggae charts in Jamaica. The song is steadily climbing Suzie Q’s Video Alley Reggae Top Ten; the Fi Wi Choice Top Ten; the Jamaica Music Countdown.

Vegas recently completed a brief European tour. “I did four shows including two major festivals and club dates. I think my performance on the tour has gotten better seeing that I have grown more confident and mature as an artiste,” Mr. Vegas explained.

Vegas has toured the world over since he emerged on the scene in the late 1990’s. Asked what was different about this tour, he said “The difference in touring this time around, I had the pleasure of sharing the same stage with Mavado who is from the new era of dancehall artistes and that felt good to know that I can still please a crowd whether it be young or old,” Vegas explained.

Pressed on what he enjoyed most about touring, the artiste who is known for the hits Heads High, Hot Wuk, Do You Know, Tek Weh Yuself and Raging Bull, said “I like to see the joy on people’s faces when I am performing and at the same time I don’t have to be worrying about bottles being thrown at me,” he said jokingly.

Vegas currently has two songs riding the Soca charts in Trinidad and Tobago. The songs are Whine for Me Baby featuring Patrice Roberts and Under the Influence featuring Swappi.

Asked how his interest in soca music developed, Vegas explained “I was introduced to soca music by Machel Montano and I fell in love with Trinidad since then. So working with Patrice Roberts only drew me closer to the Trini people,” he explained.

RDX Demolish Guadelope With Explosive Performance

Dancehall duo RDX recently returned to the island following an explosive performance in the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe.

In a release to the media, RDX member Renigade described the performance as high energy and one that their fans in Guadeloupe will remember for a long time. “We had so much fun because the energy was extremely high. We started off performing Dancers Boom which ignited the crowd immediately. But as the show progressed, the level was raised even higher,” said Renigade.

To further enhance their act, the duo invited female members of the audience on stage to participate in their routine and to also demonstrate the latest dance moves out of Jamaica.

Added Renigade “Guadeloupe is like a mini France to us and the women over there are quite attractive. It was as if we were on familiar territory.”

Among the songs that held the crowd spellbound during the duo’s more than one hour performance were Bend Ova, Dancers Anthem, Everybody Dance, Dance and their current chart rider Movements, which is doing well in the country.

RDX completed a video shoot for two of their newest singles Turn Your Swag Up and Bike Back. The duo is expected to release its Black Ants juggling on their Apt 19 label over the next few weeks. Additionally, there are new releases coming out on the Equiknoxx, Blaqk Sheep and I Strong labels.
