Tarrus Riley Added to Best of the Best Lineup

With his most recent hit Shaka Zulu Pickney currently riding the New York, South Florida, RETV and HYPE TV charts, singer Tarrus Riley is set to unleash his arsenal of hits at the 2011 staging of the Best of the Best concert in Miami on May 29.

Riley has joined the lineup of performers which includes some of the hottest names in reggae, dancehall and hip hop.

“I am looking forward to entertaining and pleasing the fans,” Riley said in a statement to the media.

Riley’s Never Leave I single which was produced by Jordan McClure of Chimney Records, is currently creating waves across the Caribbean. It is presently number one on the reggae chart in Aruba.

“It was a pleasure working with Jordan on this track. The response to Never Leave I has been overwhelming both in Jamaica and in the Caribbean. I would like to thank the fans, the media and the radio disc jocks for their continued support of my work,” said Riley.

Riley who is gearing up to release a new album later this year, has a new single called Love Scars which is to be serviced to radio later this month.

The song was produced by Roshaun ‘Bay C’ Clarke from Bombrush Records. Clarke had previously worked with Riley on the Shaka Zulu Pickney track.

“I’m very excited about Love Scars. It’s a different style and sound but the message is the same. It is a song that people from all levels can relate to. We are already planning a video for it, which we are confident the public will endorse,” said Riley.

Konshens Thrills Guyana

“It was total violation of my body and my innocent eyes,” Konshens said, trying hard – and failing miserably – to let his facial expression match his words. Unable to hold it back any longer, the laughter erupted and shook his whole body.

The deejay was describing the aftermath of his performance on Easter Monday for the people of Guyana, a land where reggae, dancehall and Konshens have the ability to bring out the best in music lovers. Konshens, in recognition of the huge and ever growing fan base he has secured there, took his ‘A’ game to Guyana and connected in a major way.

The concert, entitled Singers’ Anniversary, was held at the Guyana National Stadium and showcased the talents of dancehall artistes Lady Saw, Cham, Spice, Jah Vinci, Popcaan and Konshens. Thousands of hungry fans turned up to the event, which saw all the artistes representing well and flying the Jamaica flag high.

Konshens, whose single Gal Dem Talk has been one of the biggest tunes in Guyana
for over a year, got full marks for showing his appreciation for the love that Guyana has given him. When he touched the stage, that was the first song he
unleashed and the frenzy which it triggered was maintained throughout his entire set.

There was no holding back as Konshens “tun up di turbo” and reeled off Pretty Devil, Winner, Do Di Ting, Bounce Like A Ball, Rasta Imposter, This Means Money, Good Girl Gone Bad, Realest Ting and the most recent single to hit Guyana, Forward. The artiste and his fans were in sync and the more he gave, the better it was received and given back to him tenfold.

The vibes of the fans was unmatched. As Konshens himself described it, with a little awe, “Blank a bus … torches … people a sing … girl a bawl .. it was just incredible.” And he entertained, calling up a girl from the audience to sing with him, after which he presented her with his T-shirt. She became the envy of every girl inside the National Stadium, and by the smug expression on her face, it was obvious that she knew it.

Then Konshens called up yet another female, and this time he gave her something even more personal – his sweat-drenched merino. The young lady clutched it tightly and played ‘stuckie’ right there on the stage. She was so stunned that she just couldn’t move.

The artiste closed his set with Realest Medz, which is another anthem in Guyana
and after an encore exited the stage, leaving his fans still wanting more. However, Konshens gave his fans a chance to get up close and personal by willingly signing autographs and posing for pictures.

“I will definitely be back,” he promised, as they demanded to know when will be
his next performance in Guyana.

Chino’s US Album To Be Released May 24

The countdown to Chino McGregor’s debut US album has shifted into full gear, and the album is expected to hit shelves in a few weeks, on May 24.

The album, entitled Chino, will feature an ample array of musical genres. Chino says this was deliberate. “Growing up I was influenced by a wide cross-section of music, not only because of what I saw and listened to at the Big Ship studio, but I also grew up traveling a lot and going on tour with my father, so I was exposed to a lot of cultures and their music,” says Chino.

“So that’s going to be illustrated in this album. There are tracks there with jazz, reggae, dancehall, rock; you name it, it will be there,” says the artiste who is known for his chart-toppers, Protected, From Mawning, Ruff It Up and whose last Japan release Never Change topped the Japan Reggae iTunes chart.

Shortly after the release of his US album, the artiste will be releasing a DVD called The Autobiography of Chino McGregor. The DVD which will be a documentary chronicling the making of the album, Chino, behind the scenes footage, tours and performances, will be released for sale on iTunes.

In reference to the upcoming DVD, he says, “It’s easy for people to stay on the outside and look at an artiste or musician and think what we do is easy, but that’s far from the truth. The documentary will really give fans some insight into my work, what goes into it and also lots of insight into my personality. It will show all the drama, work and fun that I’m experiencing right now, leading up to the release of the album. So they can definitely look out for that.”

In conclusion Chino says, “…This is my first US album so we are definitely coming hard and really thought outside the box for every single track. Most of the tracks were produced by Di Genius and we want to represent our music as best as possible on the international scene. So mark your calendars – May 24.”

Mr. Easy Back On The Scene and Ready To Shine

With two new songs, a new video and an upcoming month long U.S. tour, reggae/dancehall singer Ian “Mr. Easy” Dyer, is back and ready to hit the music scene.

His new singles, Crazy produced by Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor on the Pepper Riddim and Dynamite produced by Ricky Blaze on the Party Vibe Riddim have so far received great feedback. An accompanying video to Crazy will be released next week.

But making music that pleases his fans is nothing new to the music veteran, who became a popular face on the music scene over ten years ago. Known for his smooth vocals and catchy melodies on hits such as, Drive me Crazy on the timeless Tony Kelly Buy Out riddim, Tek Wek Yuhself on the Dem Time Deh riddim and Strange things, Mr. Easy says that being in the business this long has taught him to always separate the business from the music and focus more on the business side. It’s a lesson he learned the hard way.

"Not staying focused on the business side really makes you lose a lot financially, makes you not take steps you should've made," he said.
Although his presence hasn't been felt locally recently, he has been performing internationally, in addition to taking care of his son.

Focused and ready to once again dominate both the local and international markets, Mr. Easy kicks off his month long U.S. tour this Saturday in Boston, followed by shows in Virginia, Washington D.C., and Florida. He then returns to the Caribbean for several performances in Trinidad.

G-Whizz Still On The Grind‏

Dancehall artiste Garland “G-Whizz” Rowe has been seemingly quiet since dropping numerous hit singles, Life, Whether Night or Day and On & On. But according to manager John Barrett, the artiste has been busy doing tours and recording in the studio.

“Well he’s just completed the first leg of the Ministry of National Security Peace tour in Matthews Lane two weeks ago and it was successful,” stated Barrett.

The Ministry of National Security’s Citizen Security and Justice Programme (CSJP) and the Community Security Initiative (CSI) is a crime prevention drive which seeks to promote peace through the using of positive music as one of its driving forces.

The tour targets volatile communities spanning eight parishes - the Kingston Metropolitan Area including: Mountain View, Dunkirk, Tivoli Gardens, and Fletcher's Land, Trench Town as well as communities in St. James, Westmoreland, Clarendon, St. Catherine, St. Mary and St. Ann.

For G-Whizz, being on the tour was a must because of his youthful fan base. It was therefore not surprising that he wishes to continue playing a positive role in their lives. “It’s a tour where we’re trying to bring peace in the inner city and a lot of the youth listen to my music so I’m trying to do my part in helping this initiative by being a positive influence and supporting it,” he said.

He is also on the Irie FM Road Show and will be dropping new singles very soon. His new singles are Bartender on the TJ Records label, Who Jah Bless from GaJapan Records Records and From Mi Born from NotNice Records. In addition, he plans to shoot From Mi Born in a few weeks.
