Konshens Enjoys Shooting Video For Forward

From the busy business district of New Kingston to the hustle and bustle of the Downtown Kingston arcade, up to the lofty heights of Long Mountain, deejay Konshens took to the streets with his video crew to shoot footage for the single Forward.

The Cash Flow-produced song, which has been enjoying heavy rotation on radio, has made its way onto various charts, and has now become one of the most in-demand tunes in the dancehall. Interestingly, the term ‘forward’ has taken on new life and energy, in direct response to the impact of the song.

According to Konshens, “Everybody keeps asking me when I am going to do the video, so I just assembled a team and hit the road. It was a great shoot. The video director had some crazy ideas and we brought them to life … so now we are just moving Forward.”

His face lit up as he recalled the vibe as the team travelled along Mannings Hill Road and then went into the Arcade, where they were welcomed … not mobbed.

“It was just a connection; it was a great people thing and the fellowship with the ordinary man in the street was unmatched,” said the deejay who has been emphasizing the importance of staying true to his roots.

In addition to Forward, Konshens has scored big with recent songs such as Pretty Devil, Do Di Ting, Bounce Like A Ball, Rasta Imposter,This Means Money, Good Girl Gone Bad (w/Tarrus Riley), Realest Ting and his breakout single, Winner.

The video for Forward was directed by Jay Fresh.

Christopher Martin for June 4th performance in Dominica

Christopher Martin will be making his debut performance in Dominica at Krazy Koconuts club on June 4th 2011. This is welcome news to fans who were expecting him on island earlier this month.

The 2005 Digicel Rising Stars winner, known for songs such as “Giving It”, “Jamaican Girl”, “Take My Wings”; last year’s remake of Bruno Mars’ “Just The Way You Are”; and more recently, “Paper Loving”; is very much looking forward to this visit.

According to show promoter Dane Smalling of Danejah Entertainment, he will be on island a couple days prior to the show to rehearse and of course enjoy Dominica’s beauty and the hospitality of its people.

He says, “Dominicans like live music and so Chris will be backed by the Blaklyte band and he will have ample time to rehearse when he arrives on island.”

Smalling has partnered with Chevine Edwards and Andre Davy of Déjà Vu Music to secure the artist and promote the show. The two are Jamaican producers on the rise, known for riddims such as The High Horse Riddim (Lutan Fyah “Love”, Amique “Protect Me”, Mystic Routes “Royal Woman”) and Slow Rush Riddim featuring Junior Reid, Beenie Man, Voicemail, D’Angel and others. Says Edwards, “My business partner and I wanted to expand our promotion efforts beyond Jamaica. We have strong links with many popular artists, and we currently manage Junior Reid. We definitely want to make an impact in the Eastern Caribbean.”

The expectation is that this show will be a first of many Déjà Vu events in Dominica and the springboard for others in the region. Edwards and Davy will accompany Martin and his manager Lyndon ‘Kingy’ Lettman to Dominica. Chris Martin has been nominated for his vocal abilities in recognized Reggae Awards shows such as Excellence in Music and Entertainment (EME) Awards as well as the International Reggae and World Music (IRAWMA) Awards. His music has received tremendous support in Kenya where he was voted 2010 Male Reggae Artist of the Year. 2011 is a year of firsts for Chris starting with his trip to Kenya in March, his upcoming album for the Jamaican market and now his trip to the Nature Isle.

Look out for Chris Martin live from Jamaica at Krazy Koconuts on June 4th. Local performers are Smokie Cut, Alpacino, Lady-S, Fire Bright, USI, Mel-C, and Seeova. DJ Spawner and DJ Repeat will also provide musical entertainment. Doors open at 9PM. Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 at the gate. VIP tickets are $80.00 in advance and $70.00 at the gate. Call (767) 277-0114 or (767) 615-1618 for ticketing and other info. The show is sponsored in part by Lericon Printers, Kairi FM, Krazy Koconuts, PartyDominica.com, DominicaNewsOnline.com and WB.

Denyque, The Wizard Release Fly Me Around The Moon

Supergirl Denyque has teamed up with female producer, The Wizard, for an innovative, high-energy, sure-to-please track titled Fly Me Around The Moon. The track was released virally this week, and has already been garnering positive reviews.

The track is an eclectic one; a fusion of dancehall, pop and hip-hop with the clear potential to be a fist-pumping club banger. Fly Me Around The Moon was recorded for the local entertainment programme In The Dance, which is produced by Chris Smith Management INC.

“It was a great experience to finally work with a female producer,” Denyque said, lamenting that there aren’t a lot of female producers in the local entertainment industry. “The Wizard knows exactly what she is doing. She is very talented and very down-to-earth. Street but sweet,” Denyque continued.

The fast-rising artiste believes this track is “different, hot but different” and thanked Chris Smith Management for inviting her to be a part of the project. The Wizard, who has also written and produced tracks for a number of international artistes including Nelly Furtado, is managed by that same company.

Odessa Chambers, talent producer for In The Dance says there was nobody else she thought fitting for the track but Denyque.

“Since the concept of the show is about promoting what’s new and fresh out of Jamaica whether it is dance, fashion or music, we looked and highlighted Denyque as fresh, new and talented,” Chambers said.

The Wizard believes that the track Fly Me Around The Moon is a special one mainly because of the artiste and that it has the potential to go “straight to the moon”.

“The show is about packaging all of this talent and selling it to the world,” she continued.

In The Dance is broadcast locally, as well as to 11 other Caribbean territories. Outside of the region, the show is streamed to more than 150 countries via France’s second most popular television station Trace TV. Currently, the viewership of In The Dance stands at an impressive 22-million people.
