For Nioma, assuming the throne wasn't the easiest task, as Central Village fearless attitude Lady, with ever-pumping lyrics and props that never seemed to fail, Yabalisious, put up a proper fight. Nioma defended herself, belching soothing melodies and conscious lyrics, even shocking patrons in her clash.
For the males it was a fight between Hurricane, a man with energy comparable to an atmospheric wind-and-pressure system at a category 5 level and Specialist, the 'A-grade hustler', whose lyrical poignancy earned him the ' in-the-streets' title for "phone card, phone card, banana, banana chips".
“It's one of the best finale shows we had for the last 4 years,” opined Executive Producer, Mark Kenny. “I believe the public made a good decision, from the beginning of the season we saw that we had excellent talent with tremendous competition week after week; no one could guess who would go. When you have contestants churning quality song each week, you find there will be a thin margin of who will go and who will stay.”
Nioma is nothing but grateful: “It feels real great; it’s like all my hard work has paid off…I don’t know what to say. This is just the beginning because there are a lot of things in store for Nioma, and Jamaica can expect more from me. There are road shows in place to thank persons who support me and to reach other persons. Also I’m planning to release Love One Another, in two to three weeks. I’ve also done a part two to that song, so this won’t be the last of me.”
Her royal counterpart, Hurricane aka Anthony Grant shared similar sentiments: “It’s a major achievement for me after auditioning for the show from the first year and finally making TV round and then winning. It’s like…a dream come through. I was always persistent, but it was the people behind me like Florezel Thompson, Riverside, Prodigy, Thelma, Becky, and Splendid that help me push through along with Jamaica. What the show has done is given me that platform to reach out to the people, but there is still more work because as winner or a contestants you now have to reach out to the industry.”
Dancehall fans were treated to a first on the Final night as the Top 10 contestants had the opportunity of performing a group single produced by Washroom Entertainment: the Magnum summer track, ‘Party All The Way’,
Brand Manager for Magnum Tonic Wine weighed in on Season 4 of the Dancehall talent show: “It was 16 long productive weeks, which highlighted phenomenal talent on the part of the contestants. We were truly happy to have been part of the competition for another year and help in the development of authentic Jamaican culture.”
The drop-dead curvaceous new host, Yanique had this to say about the season: “It was amazing; the experience was a fulfilling one and was beyond what I had ever done before. The most memorable performance for me was Nioma’s ‘Mama Brace Yourself’, I must say was a very uplifting song and something I believe resonates well with a lot of women and Hurricane’s ‘Whine up yuh Body and Galang Bad’, was extremely fun, of course Specialist and JR Daine had some good ones.”
