Jamaica Eco-Fest More Than Just Entertainment‏

A myriad of entertainers will be at Jamaica Eco-Fest, but not in the way many may expect. Legendary singer, Judy Mowatt, is also an arts and crafts aficionado will be displaying her craft items at the environmental festival scheduled to take place this Sunday, July 17 at the Gray's Inn Sports Club, St. Mary, 10am - 6pm.

Talk-show host/artiste/designer, Mutabaruka will also have his craft items, natural products and garments on display and for sale. In addition, singer Della Manley will give a riveting performance for patrons in the afternoon.

Organizers of the event, singjay, Tanya Stephens and Andre Gordon, say those in attendance can expect to see a number of popular personalities participating in different roles. "It promises to be an exciting event, not only because of what persons will be able to learn about the environment, but also because they will be able to see first hand how even entertainers find different ways to take care of the environment," says Stephens, the marketing coordinator of the event.

The event, which was conceptualized by the business partners last year, will celebrate and promote ecological balance and introduce patrons to eco-friendly products and techniques they can utilize daily. Not only will companies be showcasing environmentally friendly products, and alternative energy sources, which can reduce your expenditure at home, but "there will be activities promoting eco-wellness to uplift your mind, body and spirit," said Stephens.

No health package is complete without a tasty array of natural food items. Patrons will be able to sample and buy dishes from some of the island's top chefs who will be demonstrating the latest techniques in the natural food industry; and those who aren't shy, will even be able to participate in the cooking process.

Still that’s not all. One lucky couple will win an enviable gate-prize to spend a weekend at the Rockhouse hotel, one of Negril’s most pristine and exotic locations. The hotel which is known for their promotion of eco-tourism was last year nominated for three World Travel Awards and is also a certified Green Globe hotel.

Denbigh Welcomes 14th Gospel Extravaganza‏

This year's Denbigh Gospel Extravaganza which will be staged on Sunday, July 31 at the Denbigh Showgrounds, May Pen, Clarendon, will be filled with non-stop praise and excitement. The concert which forms one of the primary elements of the celebrated three-day agricultural festival will cater to patrons seeking uplifting Christian enjoyment.

The concert will feature artistes including: the energetic Goddy Goddy, the inspirational Carlene Davis, the engaging Omari, Dr. Norris Weir, Jabez, Septimus, Kereen Gregory, On The Shout Band, Melodies. Organizers of the prestigious concert, Glory Music, say worshipers can expect a well-produced event full of family enjoyment, at this the 59th staging of the Denbigh Agricultural and Industrial Show.

Tommy Cowan, head of Glory Music says the company started presenting gospel music at Denbigh in 1997 when Alan Rickards, the (then) chairman of the Jamaica Agricultural Society asked him to do several productions which included an oldies show, a youth program and a gospel evening which was dubbed 'Gospel at Sunset'.Then in 1999, 'Gospel At Sunset' gave way to 'Gospel Train'.

"During those years we realized that the attendance needed improvement, so we continuously sought ways in which we could improve it; as a result, in 2000 we completely revamped the programme and also renamed it, Denbigh Gospel Extravaganza," says Cowan.

Then in 2003 Hi-Pro, Hi-Pro Foods, Ace Supercentre and Best Dressed Chicken went on board as the main sponsors of the concert.

"Jamaica Broilers, manufacturers of the Best Dressed Chicken and other great food items, believes in supporting family-oriented events. Their involvement in the Best Dressed Fun In The Son is testament to this. Since joining forces with them, they have made an invaluable contribution to the process," says Cowan.

The concert will be hosted by the lovely Alysia Moulton-White and will begin at 5:30 pm. During this time, those in attendance will still be able to purchase delicious food and beautiful craft items from the various stalls present at the agricultural show.
