New Jamaican Children's Book: Irie Morning

Irie Morning

The sun is shining and the birds are singing, but Kingston wants to stay in bed all day. Will he let the day pass him by? Or will he discover that there is always a lot to do on an Irie Morning!

Alison Moss-Solomon – Writer
This 34 year old Publicist and TV show producer first decided to write children’s book when she became a first time mother at 31. Constantly watching children’s TV with her son, she soon realised that many cultures were being represented by colourful loveable characters such as Dora, Diego and Kai Lan. However what was missing was a Caribbean character her son could identify with, someone out of many one people with unique island skills. This was when Kingston was born.

Adom Burke - Illustrator
This graduate of Edna Manley School of Visual Arts spends his days painting murals in hotels, restaurants, office building and nurseries. When Alison first asked the 36 year old artist to illustrate her books, he thought of it as just a favour for a good friend but ended up adding another notch to his artistic belt. Through his colourful paintings, Adom brings visual life to Kingston, his family and his Caribbean world.

Irie Morning is the 1st book in a series about an Irie 8-year-old boy named Kingston. Irie Morning sells for J$500 and will be available in May 2012
