Etana Headlines Strength Of A Woman‏

This past weekend was an exciting one for fans of Etana on the beautiful isle of St. Croix. She headlined the event Strength of a Woman that was hosted by diva, Nicky Z. The show was all about women and they turned out in their numbers to support.

Etana performed twenty of her tracks to the thick, highly energized audience. Overwhelming responses came from the Virgin Islander’s for their favorites: People Talk, Dance, Blessing, I Am Not Afraid and Free. Etana introduced her new tracks, Wifey and I Am Strong which were both well received; other acts that performed included Mother Nile and Alaine.

This was Etana's first time performing as a solo act in this territory. She recalls her first trip in 2005. "Funny enough I clearly remembered the hotel we stayed in and that we had to take a small boat there; back then, I was a back ground vocalist for Richie Spice. I say, its funny as I don't usually remember all the details about some of the locations I've toured. You see so many places in such a short time. I truly love the Virgin Islands and was thrilled to be back".

Etana looked stunning on the Youth View Awards red carpet. She wore a strapless gown blocked in white and metallic blue, accentuated by an over the top pink bow. Her eye popping make up was done by, artiste to the stars, Dexter “3-D” Pottinger, who won the event’s fashion icon award. The songstress was nominated in the category, Best Cultural Artiste and also attended in the capacity of award presenter. She presented dancehall fast rising star, Popcaan with his award for favorite summer song.

Etana was among a selected few, for a special edition of the TV programme, OnStage. The theme was love and the strong one was armed with her catalogue. Watch as she performs her ballads, Happy Heart and Warrior Love with backing by Dean Fraser and the Black Soil band. Excitement rushes through the live studio audience as she connects with the jam-packed studio.

Bob Marley paved the way for today’s reggae musicians and Etana showed her appreciation by attending his birthday celebration. She was at Bob's former home on Hope road in Kingston where tributes were made to the music legend. She joined in the festivities, listened stories and shared memories of Bob and his music.

She mingled with Rita and Kymani Marley among other family members and friends who came to celebrate the life of the music icon. Rita released a flock of white doves, which was breath taking, said the singer. "It was a celebration indeed! I loved the drumming and chanting most of all. I also liked the fact that King Bob Marley never grows old and he continues to inspire and draw people from all over the world, even when he's out of flesh. They don't ever have to crown him King on Paper the world already knows he is".

Etana continued to explain that, she has been inspired as a musical performer in so many ways by Bob's amazing talent and makes every effort not to miss the annual celebration of his birth.
