"Creative" Debuts #1 on Billboard Reggae Album Chart

This week, Gyptia n's brand new album Sex, Love and Reggae (Oct 29, VP Records) debuts at #1 on the Billboard Reggae Album chart and at #24 on the Billboard Heatseekers/Top New Artist Album chart. On the heels of his Sex, Love and Reggae Tour across the United States, the Jamaican singer is elated with the news.

"It is a real honor to hold the top spot in the reggae category. We worked hard on this album and it represents me to the fullest. I want to thank all my fans who support me each day to do what I do best," proclaims Gyptian. In addition to his fans, critics have begun to sing their praises about Sex, Love and Reggae.

Associated Press calls the collection "creative and courageous" and feels "Sex Love and Reggae will easily put Gyptian at the forefront of contemporary reggae music." FUSE raves that his song "One More Time" featuring Melanie Fiona "is a treat for fans of reggae, R&B, pop or anyone looking for a sensual, new sex jam."

One of EBONY's top picks from the album is Gyptian's "soothing" cover of Gregory Isaacs "My Number One," while Pitchfork admires the "colorful" title track produced by Major Lazer and featuring soca star Bunji Garlin and the talented singer-songwriter Angela Hunte, who penned Jay Z's "Empire State of Mind." “It’s all about being versatile,” Gyptian says of the album, and his perspective on music overall. “For me, there’s no boundaries in music. Pick one—there is a Gyptian song in that category for you.” Sex, Love and Reggae is a marked departure from the MOBO and Soul Train award-winning Jamaican singer's previous releases and unveils another layer of his artistry.

The musically diverse set - that takes the listener from dancehall to soca to global pop and R&B sounds - follows his 2010 critically-acclaimed album Hold You and its RIAA certified Gold title track, which featured a Nicki Minaj remix. The 17-track set features an eclectic mix of production from Jamaica including Shane C. Brown. Justus Arison and Stanley "Rellee" Hayden for A Team, Russian and TJ Records and is co-executive produced by Jerry “Wonda” Duplessis, who is known for cranking out hits for superstars such as Miguel, Mary J. Blige, Lupe Fiasco, the Fugees and many more. Just as the title would imply, Sex, Love and Reggae is a spicy and sweet mixture of hits.

He displays his playful side with wine-inducing anthems like “Non Stop” and “Wine Slow” (which already received over 7.5 million YouTube views for the lyr ics video alone) and reveals his affectionate side on romantic ballads like “Majestic Love” feat. R&B singer Estelle. He even delves outside of the genre and re-imagines Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors,” which was part of Chevrolet and MTV Iggy’s "Cover The World" campaign.

The reggae star recently unveiled the official album trailer and his latest video for the album's lead single "Vixen" featuring Angela Hunte. The single, which is co-produced by Jerry Wonda and samples Reggie Stepper's "Cu-Oonuh," is currently spinning on Top 40 and Urban radio stations across the United States and United Kingdom and bringing a much-needed dose of reggae back to the airwaves.

LSS Records to Release‘Wray Riddim’ November 11th

LSS Records boss Reuben G will put out the label’s third release, the Wray riddim this November. The digital riddim pack features 5 tracks from a variety of UK based dancehall artists from London & Birmingham including Serocee (Toddla T Sound / Jambrum) and an exciting new talent out of London, Kong.

The most up-tempo and UK Bass influenced offering so far, the riddim’s stand out track features one of the UK’s most prominent Dancehall vocalists – Serocee.

Coming hard as always with strong lyrical content, ‘Work & Buyout’ is a continuation of Serocee’s hard working philosophy typified by his weekly ‘Mek Money Monday’ online broadcasts.

In contrast to attracting a long time member of the Toddla T Sound, Reuben G has also identified a rising talent in the shape of young London vocalist Kong. At only 23 years of age, this is Kong’s maiden release with the much anticipated Foundation mixtape expected to land soon. Reuben feels the mixture of established and unknown artists on the release sits perfectly with the riddim’s hybrid style.

“I wanted to have Serocee on one of my tracks for a while now and back when I sent him the demo I knew the fact it had a bit of a dance track influence it would be perfect for him. He jumped straight on it and I was really happy with the finished track.

Kong is someone I’ve been watching and I chose him mainly because his sound was different to a lot of UK artists out there.” Also featuring Birmingham deejays Juggernaut, Dowse & Diamond White, this is the third collaboration between Reuben G and Rebel World’s Baby Boom with the London artist previously smashing up the Normalize and Resolution riddims with ‘Da Wine Deh’ and ‘Dweet & Done’.

‘Bout Yah’ showcases Baby’s infectious fast chat style as he switches across several flows throughout. After the success of the last two releases, LSS aims to pioneer Dancehall & Bashment music with a strong and unique UK identity, as Reuben G explains: “For this riddim in particular, I wanted a really upbeat and UK Style so I approached it almost in the same way I would for one of my Funky tracks.

Hopefully, moving forward I can continue to develop that sound and start working with even more exciting UK artists.” The riddim pack consisting of 6 tracks including the instrumental version is available for digital download on the 11th November from Amazon, Juno Download and iTunes. The Wray Riddim was recently featured on Robbo Ranx’s BBC 1xtra Dancehall Show

Danielle D.I. Hits US Tour with Gyptian

Dancehall’s rebel, Danielle D.I. returns to the island after impressive performances alongside international reggae star, Gyptian. The Sex, Love and Reggae U.S. tour was a success. “I am grateful to Gyptian for endorsing my talent. It’s a tremendous opportunity to have a world class act’s support.

He has been in my shoe and understands the journey I’m taking. He presently has the number one reggae album on the Billboard charts, and is the only Jamaican to sell Gold in the past eight years; numbers never lie, so I’m deeply appreciative to be under his wings,” she said. Danielle D.I. completed solid sets for the capacity crowds.

The turnout was phenomenal for every one of the events. The audience sang along, while dancehall’s bad girl performed her hit tracks: Beat It, Rebel, Pat It Up and My Man.

“I had no idea I would get such positive responses. It was overwhelming at times. One of my favorite stops was performing at S.O.B.’s in Manhattan. I could feel the love while on stage and after the show. Fans showed excitement in meeting me, to get my autograph and to take pictures. Words can’t explain how it feels when they sing back my old songs to me, it’s a joy!” Danielle D.I. exclaims.

The entertainer says she was excited to share the stage with her peers that also performed “ Everyone did well, Bashcom X, Khago, Ricky Blaze, Fambo, Ding Dong and Benji. It was smooth sailing and I felt proud to represent as a female artiste,” Danielle D.I. said. She is presently getting great reviews for her brand new video, My Man. The much talked about Sly and Robbie produced record is becoming a street anthem.

The song is relatable to loyal lovers facing harsh economic times; through sunny or cloudy days their affection remains the same. This weekend Danielle shoots her latest release titled, Talk It Out with dancehall duchess Tiana. Outaroad pictures will visualize the Sly and Robbie composition. The riddim twins are also the producers for her album, Sly and Robbie Presents Danielle D.I. The Rebel.

It was the number one album for two consecutive weeks on the Jamaica Music Countdown Charts. On November 30th Danielle D.I. will be performing at female revolution, which will be held at the Chinese Benovolent center in Kingston. She is also confirmed to before at the annual GT Extravaganza in Black river on Christmas day.
