Tanya Carter Goes "Crazy" For Reggae

After her breakout it Ex-boyfriend, Belizean Reggae Songstress Tanya Carter returns to the scene with a brand new track Crazy as she expands her reach and carves a niche of her own in the reggae Genre.

Since the release of Ex-boyfriend and DJ Boy, Tanya has made some big moves worldwide with her unique brand of reggae music; performing on the big stage while at the same time paying close attention to the business of music.

Crazy In Crazy, Carter morphs into a hurt former girlfriend who is hell bent on exacting her revenge on a cheating boyfriend. The track blends themes of revenge and regret as Carter chronicles the trials and tribulations of a bad relationship. In one line she quips “trust me when I say you ain’t see crazy yet...my momma said you were no good I guess it’s all my fault but let me help you to understand… if I lose it and get my berretta well shame on me”.

The Christopher Birch produced singer has already started promotions on her latest single Crazyand will be in Jamaica this month to voice more songs. “Jamaica is my second home and Birchill Records is where the music happens for me. My new song Crazy is a bit different from my last two releases; Ex-boyfriend and DJ Boy as it looks on the more serious side of relationships”. 

Tanya explains Confessing that the track is a bit grittier than fans are used to, Carter says her fans have consistently embraced her brand of music and her honest lyrics that always seek to connect with her fans’ life experiences. Shows Carter, who recently completed stints in Los Angeles, New York, Suriname and Belize says her career has been growing by leaps and bounds, “Crazy is the next step in what has been a fulfilling journey. 

My career has really expanded since I started reggae as 'Ex-Boyfriend' won Best Music Festival at the 8th Annual Belize International Film Festival and I also won 'Artist of the Year' at the 2013 12th Annual Belize Sound Fest”. Added to that, Carter has also performed on several festivals such as Carifesta, International Costa Maya Festival and the Sugar City Rum Festival. Endorsements Tanya, who is known for her style in Belize, has now branched out into fashion, teaming up with Ragga Wear out of LA with her own T-Shirt Line. 

Her increasing popularity in Central America has also made her the top celebrity for appearances and endorsements. Tanya says she is in the Reggae Business: “I now have my own Reggae T-Shirt line and I recently guest judged on a few episodes of Belize’s ‘Be The Next Superstar’. Added to that I am doing a lot of endorsements for companies like Smart Telecom, Courts and L&R Liquors from Central America. Reggae music is a business and as I am passionate about this business I am trying to make my mark.”

Duane To Release Dangerously Roots

After much soul searching, reggae crooner, Duane Stephenson has finally decided on a title for his third studio album, set to be released early 2014. He disclosed that the name of the CD is ‘Dangerously Roots’.

“We wanted a name that depicts exactly what the message of this album is all about, while at the same time reflecting the edginess of the package,” Duane explained. He noted that Dangerously Roots might seem like a contradiction of terms, but in fact it is an affirmation of the importance of delving into and appreciating one’s roots.

Spearheaded by Kongstar Production, the project has been in the making for over a year, during which time Duane called up on the expertise of producers such as Donovan Germain of Penthouse Productions, Dean Fraser, Christopher Birch and Winter James in getting the right songs to set the mood and tone for the album.

The artiste and his management team are currently in discussions with two overseas-based companies regarding distribution of the product. One of the companies is based in the US and has extensive reach in marketing reggae. 

Two singles from Dangerously Roots have already been released – Rasta For I and Think Twice– and according to the singer, the response has been great, not just in Jamaica, but also the Caribbean and North America. However, in order to ensure that the album retains its full appeal, no more tracks will be released prior to the official release date of the product. 

When asked if there is a song on the album which he thinks could be as big as his monster hit, August Town, he stated, “I’m optimistic that a lot of the songs will carry over to be as big as August Town. Some of the tracks you might not connect with at the first listen, but my music is the type that grows on you and pulls you in the more you listen. “Hit songs are not guaranteed, but we are always hopeful and ensure that we put in the best work we can,” Duane said.
