TV Personality, Naomi Cowan Excels In Canada

Former television personality and Miss Teen Jamaica 2004, Naomi Cowan after departing Jamaica a few years ago to pursue tertiary studies overseas, continues to excel in the field of Television and Radio in Canada. Naomi, the daughter of gospel stars Dr. Minister Carlene Davis and Tommy Cowan and a past student of Campion College moved to Toronto in 2006 and enrolled at the Ryerson University.

In June 2010 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Radio and Television broadcasting with a minor in law. During her tenure at Ryerson Naomi was determined at proving she was serious about her career, her place at Ryerson and had a clear vision of where she wanted to go in life. She received two leadership awards in her graduating year; The Dennis Mock Leadership Award & the Student Services Leadership Award.

During her years at Ryerson, she served in varying and ever-increasing leadership roles in student government.
She continued her involvement with the students union and was elected by members of her faculty as Director for the Faculty of Communication and Design on the Ryerson Students Union board of directors. She followed that achievement with a successful run at the University-wide Board of Governors election where she obtained one of three student seats available. Within two years she held key positions in two of the largest decision making bodies at Ryerson. In her elected year she was also successful in gaining the position of Vice President of Public Relations for the West Indian Students Association.

The summer of 2009 was very busy for Naomi following her selection as an official spokesperson for the Scotiabank Caribana Festival. The festival is North America’s largest celebration of black and Caribbean culture and also a Canada wide representation of those communities. Naomi served in a variety of roles during the month long festival. She graced the cover of the official festival guide, which had a 50,000-distribution Canada wide including Chapters/Indigo bookstores. She then took on the role of producer and host of a video series titled “Feel De Vibe,” which aimed at increasing mainstream exposure of the more cultural and artistic aspects of the festival.
In March of 2009, Naomi successfully lobbied the Ryerson Board of Governors to pass an athletic referendum asking Ryerson Students if they would be willing to pay an additional ancillary fee in order to build a new athletic centre. After the referendum passed at the board level, she was heavily involved with planning the successful “Yes” campaign from deciding on slogans, posters and marketing strategies.

Needless to say this initiative was successful, with 74% of students voting “yes”. For her pivotal leadership role, in December of 2009 Naomi was the unanimous choice to host a live, televised press conference on CTV News announcing the $60 million refurbishing of Toronto’s beloved Maple Leafs Gardens for Loblaw’s and Ryerson University

Most recently, Ryerson University’s president, Sheldon Levy to, nominated Naomi to represent the university in the 2010 Winter Olympic Torch Relay to carry the Olympics torch in Port Colborne. On December 21st 2009 Naomi ran with the torch to the City Hall of Port Colbourne.

Marcus I – Real Reggae Revolutionary

“Music is global. It never disappears and once you sing what you’re passionate about, you can change the world” – Lucky Dube, South African Reggae Singer

Marcus I is a radical musical revolutionist aiming to change the world with his prolific lyrics and innovative sound. His ‘root-ical’ melodies and conscious words have made him a steady bubbler on the underground reggae scene but for the paradigm change to be wholly effected, Jah’s messenger must step fully into the spotlight. The world is ready for the revolution of Marcus I.
By no means a newcomer to the music scene, Marcus I and his live band ‘The Revolutionaries’ have been at their craft for some ten years performing regularly in their native Jamaica and across the US.

His recordings & live performances showcase a marvelous tenor chanting lyrics committed to an agenda of social commentary mastered over a smorgasbord of instruments. Spreading the Rastafari message across the land, Marcus I is indeed a rare and natural talent who writes his own lyrics, produces his own music and plays his own instruments.

Defining his sound as uniquely ‘Roots Reggae’, the singer is bent on carving his own niche and has impressed throughout his tenure, the nouveau as well as the grassroots fans of local live music. His experience, laurels and accomplishments are extensive and matched by few in his field.

Over the years, he has worked with some of the most creative producers in the industry including musical genius Ibo Cooper of Third World, the astute Mickey Bennett, Conrad Kelly of Steel Pulse as well as Big Ship’s own Noel and Glen Browne; recorded at LA’s top notch studios including SIR, Paramount and Riddimwize; travelled with some of the reggae’s greatest bands such as Fab 5, Ruff Kutt, Live Wyya, Lloyd Parkes and Desi Jones as well as shared the stage with some of the genre’s most respected singers including Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley, Toots, Shaggy, Mr. Vegas, Third World, Shinehead, Gregory Issacs, Bunny Wailer, Tony Rebel, Beenie Man & Junior Reid amongst a host of other upper echelon stars.

He has inspired and led the movement in the revival of live, poignant reggae music in Jamaica and across the US dominating the circuit with stints at Village CafĂ© also featuring friends Rootz Underground (JA), Christopher’s (JA), Reggae Sunsplash (JA), Sammy Davis Amphitheatre (Las Vegas),Reggae Sumfest (JA), Flash Point Film Festival (JA), Fully Loaded (JA), The Gig, Rusty’s Ranch & Temple Bar (LA), MTV Negril Fest (JA), Rebel Salute (JA), Billboard’s Alternative (JA), Knitting Factory (Hollywood), Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues (JA), Main Event Singer’s Showcase (JA), California’s Reggae Fest (LA) and his own headline act at Mirage Club (JA) as well a LIVE MUSIC tour in Brazil.

With 2 albums, ‘Forward to the Basics’ (2002), ‘Plan Z’ (2004), two officially released singles and videos ‘Live Up’ (2006), ‘A Better Day’ (2005) and over thirty recordings to his credit, the artiste gets ready to release his third studio album – ‘Spiritual Warfare’ on his independent label ‘MARCUSI’ music. The timing couldn’t be better and the musical maverick is in the perfect place to assert himself as ‘one to watch for’ in the upcoming year. The revolution of Marcus I has begun…are you ready?

Introducing Angelina: "The Special One"

Girls like to say they're hot. Angelina knows that she is. Why else would she pen a song about her hotness - eight deliciously flirtatious bars devoted to her definition of "hotness." Only few
women have the verve to pull it off and Angelina is one of them.

Sassy and curvaceous, Angelina is a sex bomb waiting to explode on the
dancehall scene, with a pair of new singles - "Hot" on the City Fusion Records/Akono Music labels, and the soca-flavored "Risky Business," for red hot producer, Seanizzle.

"They can say what they want but I am the special one," boasted Angelina. Confidence is definitely not a problem with this warm, yet sassy young woman. "Most females are about war; I am about sexiness and happiness," she said.

"I am going to be dancehall's next sex goddess, but without all that
raunchiness, I am all about sex appeal," she states. "I give you a shot straight to
your brain."

A young entrepreneur who operates her own fashion store, Fashionista,
in the Portmore Town Centre Plaza, this deejay/rapper has rapidly been making a name for herself.

Aspiring to become a marketer, she completed her studies in
supervisory management and marketing after completing her secondary
studies at the Happy Grove High School in Hectors River, Portland. As a child, a sound system shared her abode, quite similar in situation to that of many Jamaican musicians.

Having these musical and historical influences, Angelina catapulted
into the dancehall scene by recording her first single, "Risky Business," on Seanizzle Records in early 2009. Now she's back with her new single and everyone is saying, "She's hot."
