Songwriters Pay Tribute To Bob Andy Tonight

Since the iconic Songbook was released in 1972, Bob Andy has written and recorded nine albums, and has continued to pen original songs for other artistes, including most recently, Luciano and Marcia Griffiths. While prior to 1972, Andy had already catapulted his way to stardom courtesy of his exceptional songwriting and singing abilities. It is therefore not surprising that over the years, in excess of 60 Jamaican and international artistes have covered Andy's work.

"I have never stopped writing," says Bob. "Vintage is a category I reject. Music is the soundtrack of life and that's where I live. I am always writing.”
The many Andy originals written over the last 50 years will be celebrated and explored by over 30 current and legendary artistes across the genres of jazz, acoustic and reggae orchestra in a first-time event - Bob Andy Unplugged: Tribute to the Songwriter tonight, October 28 at the Karl Hendrickson Auditorium, Jamaica College, Hope Road.

Even tracks which received a warm reception abroad – such as the UK hit singleHoney and the new classic Zion, will be heard by many in the audience for the very first time.

Spice’s Canadian Tour A Hit‏

Dancehall artiste, Spice, has no plans of slowing down anytime soon. After a year packed with new releases: Fun featuring international multi-platinum selling artiste, Missy Elliott, Hot Patty Wine, My Boyfriend, Dick and the upcoming,Take Him Outalongside international singer, Mya, she is still on the go.

The deejay left the island last week for a one month Canadian tour and thus far both her and her fans have been having nothing short of a ball. A few nights ago she performed at Club Sagittarius in Brantford and says, “It was great. Firstly, it was a packed house and some of the fans got involved. I called the men up for a ‘daggering’ segment, to prove who could do it the best and some of the females did a Slim vs. Fluffy competition and the winner was actually a fluffy fan. It was so much fun.”

Spice says while on tour, one of the chief songs she will be promoting is her latest single, My Boyfriend, Dick. “The song is about a ‘boyfriend’ called Dick and it’s just a fun play on words; something fans can listen to and laugh about. That’s the song that I will be pushing for now, prior to a number of upcoming international releases, like the one with Mya and a few other artistes,” she says.

Raine Seville Releases Hot New Tracks

Singer Raine Seville is making her presence felt with the release of three new music videos. The singer last week shot the video for her song Listen produced by ZJ Chrome on his Cardiac Bass Riddim.

The video was directed by newcomer Roli and shot in Cherry Hill and Downtown. Although the song was released last year, Raine believes the song is still popular with her fans all over the world. She said, “The song shows the more conscious side of Raine Seville.

The video itself is a simple yet very effective concept, which plays on the lyrics of the song. In the video a girl who sleeps around and ends up with AIDS and a boy who idles and takes up gun dealing ends up in jail. So the video is also conscious.”

Second video out soon is Showdown for Payday Music, which has been getting all the buzz in the streets. “Showdown has a buzz around it especially with the fact that I'm deejaying in it, so again it shows a different side of Raine. My lyrics are very powerful in the song so that will be brought across in the video,” she said. Roli will also direct the video this Friday. Last but not least is the Bedroom Medley video from Payday Music. She added, “Bedroom Medley I can’t say much about the entire concept but my scene will show my appeal, confidence, high fashion, attitude as stated in my song on the riddim See Dem A Look".

Raine hasn’t released a music video since her popular Slippery When Wet and is excited to be back on the scene and in the faces of fans. According to the singer music videos are a good way to market an artiste and she is looking forward to their release.

Outside of that, Raine has been busy in studio and also as the new face of Euphoria Spa. Raine alongside Stacious is the brand ambassadors for the spa, which is located on Red Hills Road.
