Chaka Khan & Crystal Gayle for Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival‏


The lineup for the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival is looking to be as diverse and exciting as previous years. Organizers of the Festival are announcing that multiple Grammy Award winning star Chaka Khan and Country Pop singer, Crystal Gayle are confirmed for the 18th staging of the Festival.

The Annual event takes place on Thursday, January 30, 2014 - Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium. Chaka Khan's reign on the pop scene amassed a catalogue of hits including Through the fire and I feel for you which earned her 10 Grammy awards. The other leading lady, Country Pop singer, Crystal Gayle captured a Grammy award with hit Don't It Make my Brown Eyes Blue.  

Junior Taylor, Associate Producer of the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival is not giving everything away. "Patrons will be in for a treat as Chaka and Crystal are phenomenal singers and performers and have a repertoire of music Jamaicans enjoy. They will deliver a musical experience like no other as they are part of a larger lineup with some really awesome talent and music but I cannot give everything away so I encourage everyone to listen out for more names in the coming days," he explained. 

Other artistes billed for the Festival are Toni Braxton, Chrisette Michele, Aaron Neville and more to be announced. Jamaica's most diverse three day music Festival is in high gear for another outstanding staging with patrons locally and from overseas already making advanced purchases for tickets to the event. 

The Festival is renowned for its rich music and cultural offerings and the feature event has also been a launching pad for some of the nation's outstanding talents including Tessanne Chin, Roots Underground and Reggae crooner Romain Virgo. The JAMAICA Jazz and Blues Festival takes place on Thursday, January 30, 2014 - Satuday, February 1, 2014 at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium.

Sean Paul and Damian Marley Riot‏


Riot has hit the streets with a bang! The Sean Paul, Damian 'Jr. Gong' Marley collaboration received more than 6.2 million views since the release of the video on Worldstarhiphop.com, Wednesday, December 18.

Since its release, the Reggae, Electronic Dance Music (EDM) infused single has been receiving massive airplay locally and internationally. The single was featured in the #1 position on DJ GusmaT Top 20 Reggae singles chart, and in the top ten ranking of the Jamaica Weekly Music Countdown and Jus Jah Magazine Charts.

Riot is featured on Sean Paul's Full Frequency album expected to be released Tuesday, February 18 and can be pre-ordered on iTunes with an instant receipt of Riot. Full Frequency will follow up Sean Paul's previous album Tomahawk Technique which reintroduced the artiste in a new style and sound while still delivering on his smooth flowing Dancehall lyrics.

Michele Henderson invites you ‘Home’


After five years, Dominican musical ambassador Michele Henderson returns with her latest musical endeavour- Home (Chez Moi); a world music album she plans to promote to global markets via online distributor Believe Digital.

A combination of the first and last song titles, the album fulfills a the two-fold purpose of highlighting her birthplace Dominica as well as the romantic ballads that she is well-known for. “I wanted this project to be something that reflected me, my style, not just me in Dominica and where I live,” said Michele.

She further explained, “Home” was a song written in tribute to my country that reflected its beauty, its people and “Chez Moi” is a love song that draws somebody in and welcomes you into their space.”

She further explained, “Home” was a song written in tribute to my country that reflected its beauty, its people and “Chez Moi” is a love song that draws somebody in and welcomes you into their space.” Roland Delsol Jr., Michele’s husband, manager and producer of the project, described the album as a “labor of love” which manifested with the contributions from multiple musicians. “We tried something different this year, we decided to use as many different musicians and arrangers as we could possibly find in terms of the time and the music we present,” Delsol said. 

Artistic contributions came from Dominican music arrangers (Brent Samuels, Donavan Gabriel, Leon St. Jean, Earlson Matthew, Kendel Laurent) and their counterparts from Martinique (Phillippe Joseph of Kassav and Ronald Rulle), and Guadeloupe (Jacques Camara). Guitarists Jerry Moulon and Ordel Hamilton, percussionist Alain Dracais and bassist Roland Delsol Jr contributed musical talent. The music was produced at Audio Solutions Inc Studios in Dominica and mixed and mastered in Martinique at Heureka Studio. 

The 13-track “Home ‘Chez Moi’” will have a prolonged release during 2014 with the digital release of four songs every three months via online distributors, Believe Digital. Each launch will include a music video culminating with the hard copy release of the album CD just in time for the 2014 Independence celebrations. The first four releases are “Home,” “Mr. Right,” “2B Lonely” and “Mizik La.” Business development officer at the OECS Export Development Unit, Sobers Esprit said the album will be an “exciting product for this music market”. 

His organization contributed funds used for the recording- studio time and musicians. An accomplished flutist, Michele has displayed her vocal and musical abilities at global events including St. Lucia Jazz Festival, Roskilde Festival in Demark, UCLA Jazz and Reggae Festival in California and the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) in her native Dominica. 

Nathalie Clarke, events director of the Dominica Festivals Committee (the organizers of the WCMF) commended Michele for recording an album of “standards so high that our value is seen across the planet.” Michele’s previous albums include 2000’s Michele Henderson, Creole Special Live and Sound Check –both released in 2002, Mwen lnme’w 2004 and re-released two years later. Sa Kai was released in 2008.
