Beres Hammond and Sizzla's Nominated for Best Reggae Album

The 56th Annual Grammy Awards will air live on CBS on January 26, 2014. Two titles released on VP Records, Beres Hammond's One Love, One Life and Sizzla's The Messiah, are in the running for the Best Reggae Album category.

"We are very proud of Sizzla and Beres for this outstanding achievement. Each artist, who are both legends in their own right, created inspiring and groundbreaking material on their latest collections.

They not only released some of their best work to date, but raised the bar for the genre," VP Records CEO Christopher Chin states. Known to many as the "Otis Redding of Reggae," Beres Hammond has been producing and pouring out his smoky-sweet vocals over every kind of riddim track for almost 40 years.

VP Records released his latest Grammy-nominated, double-disc studio album One Love, One Life in November 2012. The release peaked at #1 on Billboard's Top 10 Reggae Album chart and was hailed by Rolling Stone as "one of the best albums of a four-decade-long career."

The first disc One Love includes his signature classic lover's rock sound, while the second disc One Life contains more of his socially-conscious, spiritually empowering tunes. Beres Hammond produced 19 of the 20 songs with co-producers Donovan Germain on "No Candle Light," Collin "Bulby" York on "In My Arms" and Michael Fletcher on "More Time." This is Beres Hammond's second Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album. The icon was considered in 2002 for his 2001 studio album Music Is Life. his is Sizzla's first Grammy nomination.

Mostly written and executive produced by himself, Sizzla's full scope of talents are displayed on his 70th effort The Messiah, which was released this May. As one of reggae's most prolific artists, he showcases his musical depth, passion and precision on this 15-track collection inspiring positive change worldwide.

His social commentary on songs like "Chant Dem Down," "No Wicked Man" and "Psalms 121" reveal his daring bravado and righteous lyrics, while the melodic anthem "Good Love" unveils his softer side. The Messiah peaked at #1 on the South Florida Reggae Chart and New York Reggae Chart. With his fresh perspective, it is evident that Sizzla remains the reigning king of roots.

Wayne Marshall Shows His Tru Colors

The Debut Effort with the Marley-owned Label Ghetto Youths International Will Be Released January 21, 2014 On January 21, 2014, Jamaican reggae artist Wayne Marshall will unveil Tru Colors – his first full-length album in over 10 years and debut studio release for the Marley label Ghetto Youths International.

The 13-track collection, produced primarily by Damian Marley and written almost entirely by Marshall, follows his recent digital-only EP Tru Colors (Ghetto Youths International) and his 2003 LP Marshall Law (VP Records).

Tessanne Chin, this season’s winner of NBC’s The Voice and Marshall’s sister-in-law, also contributes lyrics on the album’s closing track “On The End.” Tru Colors will be distributed through Thirty Tigers / Sony Red.

The multi-faceted singjay, songwriter and producer – known for his clever lyrics, melodic cadence and hit-filled repertoire including “Overcome,” My Heart” and “Good Ole Wife” – covers a diverse range of moods, styles and topics on Tru Colors. Taken from a phrase in R.E.M.’s mega-hit “Losing My Religion,” Marshall talks about our choices being essential to our fate on “On The Corner,” backed by a heavy roots reggae rhythm.

He calls out all fake friends on the title track and urges strugglers to keep their heads up on the R&B/gospel-tinged “Nah Give Up” featuring Tarrus Riley. On “Be On The Alert” featuring Bounty Killer, he addresses the dramatic increase of missing children in Jamaica over a leisurely-paced one drop riddim. He dreams big on “Success Story,” contemplates life on “In The End” and livens things back up on the aspirational anthem “Stupid Money” featuring Assassin.

His swagger also shines on the playful single “I Know,” his massive 2012 hit “Go Hard” featuring Aidonia, Assassin, I-Octane, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, Bounty Killer and (the incarcerated) Vybz Kartel, and its new hip-hop flavored remix “Go Harder” featuring Ace Hood, Cham and Waka Flocka.

He wrote songs with Damian “Jr. Gong” and Stephen “Ragga” Marley before signing to Ghetto Youths International in 2011, and knew their label would successfully execute and oversee his next full-length musical endeavor. “I feel very good about the songs that we have put together and believe Tru Colors will be a stepping stone towards taking my career to the next level,” Marshall states.
