After three years as host of the world’s number one dancehall competition - Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall, the effervescent host Empress has decided to leave the show to pursue other personal projects.
The popular media personality and reggae artiste has been with the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall team since its inception four years ago and will surely be missed by the team. Empress stated: “I have totally enjoyed the last three seasons and I am looking forward to some new projects ahead. I wish the show all the best in unearthing authentic Jamaican talent for the entertainment appetite of the masses and I know it will grow from strength to strength”.
Magnum Kings and Queens' Executive Producer, Mark Kenny, says he is happy to have had the opportunity to work with Empress: “We are very sad to see her leave as she was integral part of the genesis of the show. Empress was in fact the first person I approached when I devised the programme 4 years ago. Her energy was infectious and she really bonded with both the viewers and the contestants. She will be a hard act to follow and we would be glad to have her appear on the show as a guest judge anytime."
Lisa Bell, Divisional Manager for Lascelles Wines & Spirits - the company which pioneered the Magnum brand that has made the show possible, - is also appreciative of the contribution that Empress has made to the development and popularity of the competition: “We are sad to see Empress go and wish her all the best in her projects. Her Magnum energy was fun to work with week after week and will surely be missed.”
With the exit of Empress, Mark Kenny says the search is now on to find a suitable host who can bring the fire and excitement that Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall is known for. He says filling the space left by Empress won’t be easy but the producers have already begun their search: “Empress is a hard act to follow but we are currently searching to fill her spot. The new host will be revealed at the grand launch of the show on October 4”.
The 4th Season of the first ever televised dancehall competition will be launched in October, 2010. The objective of Magnum Kings & Queens of Dancehall is to discover, encourage and showcase talent of aspiring local deejays and sing-jays. It incorporates dancehall fashion, lifestyle and the best of Jamaica’s culture. The television show will air on TVJ for its fourth year in 2011 now with a new face but the same good fun and tremendous talent it has become known for.
