Will Lil Rick regain the coveted title of Male Entertainer of the Year once again? This year, he has been nominated in four categories – Male Entertainer of the Year, Best Soca / Ragga-Soca / Calypso (Artist / Group) – “Go Down”, Song of the Year -“Go Down” and Best Ragga / Mid-Tempo Single (Male)- “ Go Down”. Although the popular single “Go Down” was not entered in any local competitions during the Barbados Crop Over season, the song is undoubtedly one of the most popular songs released in 2010.
For the first time since their entry into the performance, Rick’s son and daughter, Rinicko and Rickara popularly known as the “Hypa Kids” have also been nominated in the category Best New Artist/ Group. The duo dominated the airwaves and several events during Crop Over with a track titled “Happy Feet” penned and produced by their father.
Also nominated from the Pyramid camp is Biggie Irie’s music video for the single “No One To Blame” in the category Music Video of the Year (Male)
Other significant nominees for this year is the Fully Loaded band, which has been nominated for Band of the Year and Best Reggae/Dancehall Artist/Group. Lead vocalist Buggy has been nominated for Best Reggae / Dancehall Single for the single Best Friend.
In the Artist/ Band Compilation of the Year (Various) is the 18 track compilation album “ Roast Breadfruit and Butter” featuring several regional artistes including Skinny Fabulous, Peter Ram, Beenie Man, Problem Child and many others. This album also features a collaboration of producers Vincentian Alex Barnwell and Barbadian Adam “ Bubba” Elias teaming up on several tracks on the album.
