New York, NY--January 3, 2011 --Reggae luminary and Grammy Award winning mega-producer Stephen Marley along-side his brothers Damian Marley and Julian Marley announce the signing of conscious hip-hop artist Johnathon Malcolm to the growing roster of musical talent featured on the Marley brothers record label imprint, Ghetto Youths International, Inc.
A new voice on the conscious rap scene, Johnathon Malcolm is a socially aware lyricist that has peaked the interest of international fans by blowing up the internet with his commercially accessible smash single , ‘Bless Day’ produced at the Lion’s Den in Miami , Florida by his cousin , Stephen Marley . The debut single offers a powerful introduction to Malcolm and his effective approach to “keepin’ it positive”.
Johnathon Malcolm comments, “I’m gearing up to make a difference in this game. My music is dedicated to insightful commentaries that will challenge audiences to step outside of their hip-hop comfort zone, and embrace tough beats with fresh, positive, clear and clean lyrical perspectives.”
Citing influences such as Bob Marley, Damian Marley, Mos Def, Nas, Jay-Z, Jadakiss, Timberland and Pharrell, the 24 year-old edgy talent has been surrounded by reggae music his entire life and began resonating with hip-hop at a very tender age. The influence of the musical Marley family helped Johnathon to grow as an artist and perfect his craft as a songwriter and producer. At age 12 he began to DJ and write music, and at age 18 Malcolm found himself landing a performance spot with Damian Marley at a gig in Gainesville, Florida at the University of Florida.
Johnathon Malcolm is currently working with Stephen Marley on a full-length album entitled, The Gift, as well as a music video for ‘Bless Day’, both of which have anticipated 2011 release dates. Until then, Malcolm’s debut single ‘Bless Day’ can be found available for purchase on i-Tunes. Fans can also text Bless1 to 46101 to acquire the ‘Bless Day’ ringtone.
