Making Waves in Soca

From its release in 2010 for Vincy Carnival, Charge Up/Duracell track created quite a frenzy amongst soca lovers across the world. It therefore came as no surprise that this Alex “Kubiyashi” Barnwell produced single secured Skinny Fabulous his third soca monarch title and landed him a place in the prestigious International Soca Monarch competition in Trinidad on the 4th March, 2011.

Immediately after, came the collaboration with Machel Montano on the Charge Up single followed by a music video directed by Edward Burke of Elite Media Concepts during the Miami Carnival weekend. Most recently, he released the Charge Up “Trini Road Mix” done by Scratchmaster.

Both tracks appear on the 18 track compilation album “Roast Breadfruit and Butter “ along with four other singles from Skinny Fabulous - Strong Rum, On the Road, Boom Blast and Bumper In Trouble. Since his rise to prominence in 2008 with “Head Bad”, this energetic performer is gradually making a name for himself in all the right circles.

Before making his way to Trinidad Carnival later this month, he will be performing at Barbados’ Caribfest Awards on the 9th January, 2011.
