Splicerr Ras Taking His Career in a New Direction

New York based reggae artiste and producer Splicerr Ras is determined to take his career to new heights. The now conscious-minded singer, born Oral William, began his music career in dancehall where he enjoyed early commercial success with the singles ‘Can’t Test My Sound’ and ‘Montell’, but after switching his religious beliefs to the Rastafarian faith, he subsequently convert to reggae music.

However, Splicerr Ras initially found it difficult to replicate the same success in reggae that he had gained while recording dancehall songs. But, the Trelawny-native remained steadfast in his belief that he’d recap those glory days through his conscious lyrics and spent ample time honing his craft.

Now the baritone singer believes that his decision to get intimate with his craft is vastly paying off. “I just don’t get up and write on a subject or topic. Most times I wake up with a song, that’s not my doing it had to be divine intervention.

“My passion for this craft is a natural flow … and that I believe is one of the reasons I am getting this attention,” he said.

Splicerr Ras showed creativity and humour in his days as a dancehall deejay, but he admitted that there’s a greater level of maturity on his path and referred his claims to the singles ‘You and Me’ and ‘Memories’, which have been enjoying reasonable airplay.

He has also released a 12-track reggae album titled ‘Path to Persue’, which was produced by himself and journey man Ed Robinson. He’s also featured in a movie called Gangster Nuh Play, edited by Sobo Films in Brooklyn, New York.

In his capacity as a music producer, Splicerr Ras has so far enjoyed reasonable success especially in 2006, when he produced Luciano’s ‘Only Jah Jah’, which peaked at number seven on New York reggae chart, for his Oz1 (pronounce “as one”) record label.

‘Only Jah Jah’ was recorded on his ‘Time and Weather’ rhythm, which also featured his own ‘Road So Foggie’ single.

Along with ‘Road So Foggie’ and ‘Holding On’, Splicerr Ras has also recorded and released Got It Going, You and Me and Empress, which he said will be a positive listen for his fans. He said that his music is uplifting, conscious, and progressive and would leave one wanting for more.

“Splicerr music will give you an additional outlook on life. It will uplift, sooth and enchant you, giving you a greater reason to love life,” he said.
