US based dancehall artist Abba Blade is a multifaceted entertainer. The talented deejay who grew up in the Water House area of Kingston, is a major player on the dancehall circuit in Columbus Ohio where is known for his hard hitting vocal skills as a deejay. He is also one of the top sound system selectors in Ohio where he is affiliated with the popular Roots High Power sound system.
Drawn to music from an early age Abba blade whose real name is Elvis Wright has been deejaying since he was nine years old. He did his first major performance at the age of twelve when he performed with an artist called Ragga Ruggie at Teen Splash. After that he went on to perform on a number of other big events including Border Clash and Sting, before migrating to live in America.
“I have always loved music since I was little boy and during my early childhood days I started to deejay to the tunes I would hear playing in my community or on the radio and from that stage I just grew into the whole music thing, especially with my father owning a sound-system called Excaliba, it was very popular in the 90s. Plus I grew up around a lot of artist like the late Sugar Minott, he was one of my main influences as a kid.”
Since moving to the US Abblade has been very busy blazing a trail for himself, performing on a number of major reggae and dancehall events in in places such as Atlanta, New York, Florida and Ohio. He has also recorded a number of singles for labels such as Roots Records and Basement Deep Records.
“Since I moved to the states I have been performing all over the place, so far I have opened for several top acts from yard such as Freddie McGregor, Sizzla, Tany Stevens, Queen Ifrica, Mr. Vegas and Serani,” said the artist.
Abba Blade is getting ready to impact the global market place with his music, however in order to do this he intends to make a serious mark on local soil, as he knows that conquering the Jamaican music scene is extremely vital for him to achieve this goal.
“Right now I want to take my music worldwide and in order for me to do this I have lockdown the Jamaican market first and then my music will spread out to the rest of the world. I recently hired Ralston Barrett who is one of top PR persons in Jamaica to spearhead all my promotions. We plan on doing a lot of work to get me firmly established in Jamaica.”
Abba Blade is currently enjoying strong rotation with his latest single titled Path To Success which was done on the hot dancehall rhythm titled First Cut, that also features songs from other artists including Gyptian, Fambo, Munga Honorable and Lemanade. He is also promoting a number of other singles including Mama Don’t Cry and Glasses.
