On February 26, 2013, Meta and the Cornerstones released the first single, My Beloved Africa, from their forthcoming album, Ancient Power, featuring Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley.
Meta Dia, born in Senegal, pays tribute to his homeland with My Beloved Africa by reflecting on the ancestry, rich history and resilience of a people who have been faced with unspeakable hardships.
The raw emotion communicated through the lyrics displays Meta's pride in what he calls, "Africa, my place of birth." About his experience working with Damian Marley, Meta remarks, "It was truly an honor. To be able to record with Damian who is the son of reggae Legend Bob Marley speaks to the essence of the single. It was really a surreal moment in time that I will cherish. I think my overall joy was captured in the recording of this single and the album in general."
The fourteen-track album will be released on April 30, 2013 through VPAL and Universal. Prior to the release, a private listening party will be held in New York City for media, industry insiders and specially invited guests.
Manager, Victor E. Lewis remarks, "My Beloved Africa is really a glimpse of what is to come. Meta and Damian's chemistry is unmatched and I think that everyone will identify with the lyrics whether you are African or not. It's a global anthem. This single is going to fuel the excitement for the forthcoming album.
With our scheduled promotions and major endorsements received from the Senegalese Community including the Senegalese Consulate here in New York, the journey is already exciting. It is an amazing project that my team and I are proud to be involved with."
Executive produced by Meta Dia and Victor E. Lewis, Co-produced by Sidney Mills, Ancient Power was recorded in Kingston Jamaica at Tuff Gong Studios and features collaborations with Capleton and U-Roy.
My Beloved Africa is now available on iTunes.
