Trinidadian soca star Bunji Garlin takes home the 2013 Soul Train Award for Best International Performance.
Other nominees in this category included Machel Montano, Emeli Sande, P-Square and Iyanya.
While this year's Soul Train Awards was taped in Las Vegas on Nov. 8, the ceremony aired this past Sunday (Dec. 1) on BET.
Garlin lands this win for his hit song "Differentology."
Bunji Garlin's "Differentology" has been the year's biggest anthem throughout the Caribbean Carnival season and is a making a major impact in North America.
DJ supergroup Major Lazer immediately jumped on the remix, who helped fuel the buzz to a crossover audience earlier this year.
More recently, the song was declared the champion on NYC’s HOT 97 FM’s Battle of The Beats competition, which currently put the track into full rotation at hip hop’s premiere station. "Differentology" was just featured on ABC's top-rated TV drama series Grey's Anatomy and is quickly becoming one of the NBA's new favorite arena anthems. It aired during the Brooklyn Nets vs.
Portland Trail Blazers face-off and Toronto Raptors vs. Miami Heat game.
Bunji Garlin is set to release his upcoming studio album, aptly titled Differentology, next year on VP Records. His anticipated album will be his first full-length release on VP Records since 2007’s Global.
The international soca vocalist recently wrapped his album photo shoot with iconic photographer Jonathan Mannion (whose credits include Lance Armstrong, Jay Z, Lil Wayne, Drake & Bon Iver).
