Lazah Current Seeks Breakthrough With A 'Betta Tomorrow‏'

With a second solo album in the works, reggae artiste Lazah Current believes it’s now the right time for him to get that elusive ‘big break’ in the local music industry.

The Manchester-native, born Hal Duggan, has been active in the music business since the mid 1990s, but is yet to discover a significant breakthrough despite his longevity and a reasonable successful international career.

However, Lazah Current believes he has so far mastered the art of patience and is very optimistic that his soon-to-be-release 15-track album titled ‘Betta Tomorrow’ will be just the right remedy for him to get that musical breakthrough he craves.

“Lazah Current is a traditional reggae singer, and in everything he does he tries to maintain that,” said the singer, who spent most of his years growing up in Ontario, Canada.

While in Canada, the soothing chanter became a part of a famous reggae group called Messenjah, recipient of the 1997 Juno Award- for best reggae album, but after a decade he decided to go solo as he found difficult to cope with a solo career and the group.

However, that didn’t stop Lazah Current from fulfilling his musical ambitions and soon after he released the tracks Mock Di Dread & Gwaan, World Wide War Zone and Super Model, which received much attention on radio stations and in the clubs in Toronto, Canada.

Now, the singer wants to transfer that energy onto the local music scene and has pinpointed his album, which was produced by Guerrilla Music Production, as a source of strength. The album also boasts three inspiring tracks, which were produced by DJ Key Management.

“Well this (album) is my second solo album and I placed a lot of effort into it because I want it to be on a very high standard. The album will have both a local and international flavor to it, and I believe this project will be the one to get me out there in a big way,” he said.

While he’s hoping for future successes in music, the singer recalled that being apart of Messenjah played an integral role in his life. While in the band, Lazah Current played the keyboard and also served as a background and co-lead vocalist.

He recalled that being an active member in the band fueled his desire to become more successful in music and credits most of his current achievements to the band. “I remember being with Messenjah and one of the things we always vision was to become a major force in the business. It was difficult then, and still is but I wouldn’t be this blessed musically today, had it not been for that group,” he said.

Using his creative and unique skills along with his incredible vocal talent, Lazah Current believes it’s just a matter of time before the public begins to take hold of his music.
