Alison Hinds Added To JAMAICA Jazz Festival Line Up

The Queen of Soca, Alison Hinds is set to perform at this year's JAMAICA Jazz and Blues Festival scheduled to run from Thursday January 27 to Saturday January 29. She joins a first-class line-up which includes veteran singers Ron Isley, Regina Belle, trio SWV, pop idols Maroon Five and Jamaica's own musical sensation Diana King. The 15th edition of the festival will be held at the Greenfield Stadium in Trelawny.

The English born Hinds relocated to Barbados at the age of 11. She joined the Soca band, Square One right out of high school. Their first hit Ragamuffin gave the group and Alison much deserved recognition. Over time she became widely known for her energetic performances, robust vocals and unqualified musical talent. She would record 11 studio albums with the group and produce another number one single Faluma.

Hinds eventually launched her own solo career with her first album Soca Queen which produced the well-received international hit Roll it Gal. The potent song imparted a clear message: “When I heard the demo I said this is it. It was meant to be; I recorded it in one take! It connected like no other song I’d done before.” The message? “I’m telling women to take pride in themselves, don’t take any abuse, look after your kids, do your studies, believe in yourself and look to God. So many women have told me that the song lifts them up.”

Her independent endeavour created new markets for her music which included Europe, North America and the Far East. She has conducted several worldwide tours and most recently recorded two songs with other famous Caribbean artistes as a dedication to the rescue and rebuilding efforts in the earthquake ravaged Republic of Haiti.

Audience members at this year's Jazz Festival can expect a fiery and compelling musical performance from the undisputed Queen of Soca.

The event is sponsored by The Jamaica Tourist Board, Johnny Walker, Heineken, Iberostar, Flow, Baileys, CVM TV, Gleaner, Fame FM, Nationwide, Ocean Spray, Courts, RIU and many more.
