Barrington Levy ft. Vybz & Khago - "Gangsters"‏

Barrington Levy can be called many things – a dance-hall veteran, Reggae god, national treasure, living legend, the list goes on… however one thing he is not is a gangster. You’ve heard his unique voice and homespun sounds just about everywhere on the planet – he is the truest definition of what it means to be a global star.

From a sample that The Black Eyed Peas borrowed to his untouchable lacing up of yet another Snoop Dogg remix – toss in a healthy serving of Black Roses and two handfuls of Murderer and you have a recipe for success. You’re welcome, Snoop. Barrington – the myth, the man, the legend, is still a smoldering fire and a force to be reckoned with. Without a doubt his list of achievements reaches far beyond our Stratosphere.

His latest release on Platinum Camp/ Black Roses Records is appropriately entitled, It’s About Time. The sure to be a hit single called “Gangsters”, is a battle cry. It bellows from the depths of the human soul and delivers a resounding cease and desist order for the senseless bloodshed in his hometown of Kingston, Jamaica to end. Platinum Camp Records had this to say about Barrington’s latest release.

It is finally here, the most highly anticipated soundtrack from the movie Gangsters starring the legendary singer Barrington Levy and dance hall’s most controversial artist and alleged bleacher – Vybz Kartel (Say what you may about Kartel, but he is the driving force in today’s dance hall music.) and upcoming Reggae superstar, Khago. This song will explode on the airwaves on the first day of February and was inspired by the movie Gangster depicting the senseless killings of inner city kids. It also shines a light on guns and drug trafficking, money laundering and the inner workings of organized crime. This only goes to show that life follows art as recently Khago’s lifelong friend became a statistic and was brutally slain by a gang member for his Blackberry phone.

Daddy Bigg$, CEO of Platinum Camp Records was recently quoted as saying, “We have to put an end to the gang related killings that are plaguing our communities.”

The hit new single is being powered by Platinum Camp Records and Black Roses Inc., who recently signed one of the biggest digital distribution deals, along with producer Mike Jerz from Highly Educated Music. The movie which is currently in production stars: Paul Campbell, Barrington Levy, Wyclef Jean, Twin of Twins and J-Blax. Directed by Caesar Augustus from Augustus Films. The scenes are being shot in three locations: Jamaica, Philadelphia and New York.

This hot new single is now available for purchase on iTunes http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/gangsters/id418003718.

This time the Mellow Canary’s song is anything but sweet. Barrington matches heavy hearts to heavy beats. He seizes the spot light firmly – with both hands – forcing those spitefully blind eyes open. It’s a song of longing and agony over the languishing of those who are falling under the heavy curtains of oppression, violence and strife. Who can fathom the depths of human depravity when the demons have a choke hold? It’s a grip that Barrington hopes to break.

He is not alone in his musical outreach to the nation. Dance-hall heavy weight Vybz Kartel delivers a knock out performance deeper than any issues of skin color and with Khago on hand (the brilliant vocals of his hit single called, “Nah Sell Out”) this threesome is sure to bring the water to a scorched Earth.

If one man through his music can change a nation – this mission may rest solely on the experienced shoulders of none other than Barrington Levy. It’s a battle he continues to fight with all of his lyrical might in a hope to bring an end to the raging war and violence.
