Massica Doing Well With Go Haad And Done‏

Dancehall music has made stars out of many performers, several of whom fall by the wayside either by failing to score a follow-up hit song or bad management.Deejay Masicka insists he will not fall in that category. The 19 year old’s latest song, Guh Hard And Done, not only deals with the importance of staying power in the music business but life in general. Released early this year by Crash Dummy Productions, it is the biggest song to date for the Portmore entertainer.

“What wi saying is wi not coming into the business to mek up number an’ to jus’ mek quick money. Wi in it for the long run,” he said. Guh Hard And Done was recorded on the Stadium Buck beat which also features songs by established acts Black Rhino and Kiprich. It is one of a handful of songs Masicka has ‘voiced’ recently for various producers.

While 2010 was relatively quiet for him, he did enjoy marginal success
with God A Watch Over Mi which was released on the Equinox label. This year, his studio time has stepped up considerably with Guh Hard And Done getting steady rotation on local radio.

Wine Up Yuh Body, another song Masicka cut for Crash Dummy, has also been released. He has also done recordings for TJ Records and Cash Flow Records, the latter responsible for some of I Octane’s big hits. Going to recording studios has been a way of life for Masicka since he was 12 years old. Born Javaun Fearon in Portmore, he recorded his first song seven years ago while he was a student at Calabar High School.

It was at Calabar that he really got into dancehall music, especially the hardcore sound of Bounty Killer and the conscious strains of Assassin. He cites the latter as his biggest influence. “All Assassin songs have a concept, there’s always a story. I woulda like master mi craft like him,” Masicka said. A video for Guh Hard And Done was recently filmed and released by Crash Dummy Productions.
