Dean Frazier, Uncle Jonny, Sugar Minott |
Produced for Uncle Jonny’s own label Jon Strauss Productions, the album boasts the best in musicianship as the legendary Firehouse Crew lays the instrumentation live. Recorded at Bobby Digital Studio, Anchor Studio, Flava Studio and Judgement Yard, Uncle Jonny achieves musical success in keeping the feel of the album vintage, hence the album’s name.
Bridging the generation gap between lovers of Roots Reggae and the youth, Uncle Jonny recorded with Sizzla (“Hey Mr. DJ”), Gyptian (“Teach The Children”), and Luciano (“Move Over”) whose voices were brought to world attention via the same medium. “Recording with these Reggae greats was truly an honor” said Uncle Jonny from the famed Bobby Digital Studio on Ron’s road.
“Roots Reggae is a special genre that carries the spirit of Reggae’s ancestors which we must keep at the forefront, especially for the youth.” Each of the mentioned artists participated in the production of their respective tracks, capturing their love and appreciation for the music and genre as much as Uncle Jonny’s. When reached by telephone, Luciano said “Jonny’s passion for the music is good to see, and good to hear. His genuine love for the music will reach all corners of the world.”
Uncle Jonny’s lead single, “Jamaican Girls” was released to L3’s network of DJ’s last week and met with positive feedback from the UK, Europe and Canada. The song hears the singer confirm what Jamaicans already know which is Jamaican girls are the best girls in the world!
In addition to giving fans authentic Roots Reggae, Uncle Jonny also gives fans dub cuts which are recorded live and serve as the perfect enhancement to an already fantastic album.
