Spice Back In Jamaica And Ready To Rumble

Dancehall artiste Spice is finally back in Jamaica and ready to roar. One week after giving birth to her second child a few weeks ago, Spice was already plane-hopping to performances across the Caribbean.

Spice, who shocked fans with her pregnancy announcement almost seven months into the process, says, “So far I’ve done quite a few shows and that shocked people, because they were saying, ‘you nuh just have baby? Why don’t you take some time off?’ I love being a mom and a businesswoman, but I also love music and performing, so it’s impossible for me to go for longs periods of time without doing it.”

Still, hitting the stage so early hasn’t been an easy triumph. Spice who is popularly known for her colossal hits, Ramping Shop, Slim vs. Fluffy, Jim Screechie and more says she had to maintain her exercise regimen throughout the pregnancy so getting back on stage immediately after would not be difficult to accomplish.

“Because of that when I visited Jamaica a week after to perform at Shebada’s birthday bash at the three locations with Lady Saw and Ragashanti, people were surprised,” she said laughing. “A few days after that I flew to Barbados for a show there and it went great. It’s the same Spice; nothing has changed in terms of my stage presence and the acrobatics. The only thing that has changed is my image, because every year I try to keep it fresh and unpredictable.”

Spice who is also the owner of the upscale clothing store, Spicey Couture in Mall Plaza, St. Andrew and 8 Ball Bar & Lounge in Portmore, says she is already back in the studio recording. “I have a few new tracks which are almost ready to be released and I will be leaving the island for back-to-back performances in a few weeks again. So I’m just trying to fit everything in, plus make time to be a great mom and fiancé.”

Cali P From Switzerland to Guadeloupe to Jamaica

If you read Cali P’s official bio, he says that he is lyrical ‘faya,’ but there are some who don’t agree with that single word description! For many, Cali P is more than lyrical fyah; he’s a truth teller, a nation builder, and female empowerer, all within the strides of music and entertainment.

Originally born in Switzerland and raised between Switzerland and Guadeloupe, this Reggae and Dancehall artist speaks to and for the Caribbean and African diaspora as he regularly chants that we are all one with no division.

These lyrics are evidenced in the song “Roll Deep” where the artist proudly states “we roll deep, and when we flex then we flex with the flex of the West Indies …” and goes on to sing “some call it West Indies, some say Caribbean, some call it yaad, but inna mih heart mih know we ah real African!”

In addition to being an incredible entertainer, Cali P is also an astute business man. Partnering with medal earning ski giant Tanner Hall, sound selector turned record producer Anil "Phantom" Montaque and movie producer Eric Iberg, this foursome run Inspired Music Concepts which is responsible for hit records including "No Time" and “Like A Lion (Hotsteppa)” which were used in the soundtrack for the movie ‘Like A Lion’. In Switzerland the combination "As one" between Cali P and Switzerland's top rapper Stress, which was also co-produced by Inspired Music Concepts, is currently enjoying regular radio and TV play.

Spending time equally at home in Switzerland, Guadeloupe and Jamaica, Cali P is focused on staying true to his roots, and connected to the spirit and energy of the people, the very ones he represents through his music. “Since I came to Jamaica I've been overwhelmed by the support and love of the people which means a lot to me, as it is the home of Reggae music” said the artist. “My greatest inspiration comes from life and the people in this beautiful world.”

Partner Anil "Phantom" Montaque, the music producer says "Working with Cali P is always fun. Sometimes he provides the lyrics first and I make the beat for it. At other times my riddims inspire him to write a song. It's just a good vibe!"Cali P has collaborated with industry greats such as Freddie McGregor and Mykal Rose, and young artists GWhizz, Wasp and Devano. He is also featured alongside Tarrus Riley, Omar Perry and Ziggy, and more on the Gorilla Riddim produced by Europe’s Necessary Mayhem.

Currently on tour in Europe, Cali P continues to draw large fans to venues, a reflection of the numbers his music receives on YouTube. The artist is performing songs from his catalog, as well as songs fans can expect to hear on his upcoming album 'Unstoppable.'

TOK To Release "Keep The Faith" For Japan

March 17, 2011 - Kingston, Jamaica - With persons still reeling from the recent devastation in Japan, dancehall and reggae group, TOK, will be releasing an inspirational track, Keep The Faith for their extensive Japan fan-base.

The group made the announcement three days ago in a mini documentary on their youtube page, TOKJamaica. The track Keep The Faith was produced by the group on their label, X.C.A.R. Productions and is scheduled for release next week.

“We have seen all of the footage possible from Japan about the earthquake and tsunami and this is a message of love, hope and prosperity to everybody out there right now,” said Flexx in the webisode.

“We want [them] to know that as you have supported us over the years, TOK will also be there to support you in whatever capacity we can,” expressed Craigy-T .“The most important thing in times like these is helping each other and we have to do our part as TOK as ambassadors of the music to help and extend all that we can to everyone out there in Japan who is suffering at this point in time,” said Alex.

The often mysterious base singer, Bay-C, said, “You’ve been there for us in great times; we’ve sold so many albums there, so many great concerts, you showed us love and opened up the country as if it was our second home, so it’s only natural that we are here for you during your bad times…we will be supporting you guys more and more in weeks to come and look out for us even coming over there one day again and helping.”

The webisode which has already garnered almost four thousand views has also been viewed by fans in Japan – who also went on to comment on the video.

Flexx told THE STAR, “That was just a way for us to reach out to our fans there. The devastation is unspeakable and we want them to know our thoughts and prayers are with them and we will be a part of any effort which will help the country. The reggae track, Keep The Faith is the first step. We want to offer them hope and comfort.”
