This past Sunday (July 21), Gyptian made a surprise guest appearance at the third annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival, which attracted over 15,000 people to Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, NY to celebrate the finest Caribbean cuisine, culture and music. Irie Jam's 93.5 FM radio personality DJ Roy called the reggae star to the main stage to present him a RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) certified Gold plaque for Gyptian's #1 hit single "Hold You."
The title-track from Gyptian's Billboard Top 200 album is the first track from a Jamaican reggae artist to sell over 500,000 digital units in almost a decade. This milestone places Gyptian among an elite class of Jamaican artists including Shaggy, Sean Paul and Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley.
After Gyptian graciously accepted the award, he performed the anthem to the jam-packed crowd, which also saw performances from Christopher Martin, Fab 5 and festival headliner Shaggy with surprise guest Maxi Priest.
This week, Jamaican reggae singer Gyptian also drops his brand new single "Vixen" off his highly anticipated album Sex, Love and Reggae. The sizzling anthem features singer-songwriter Angela Hunte, who penned the Grammy-winning song "Empire State of Mind" for Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys and contributed to Snoop Lion's latest album Reincarnated. "VIxen" is produced by the Jerry "Wonda" Duplessis, whose credits include the iconic Fugees’ album The Score and hits for Destiny's Child, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Estelle, Justin Bieber, Miguel, Lupe Fiasco and more.
Gyptian's fourth studio album Sex, Love and Reggae, scheduled to drop this fall on VP Records, is the follow-up to his critically-acclaimed Hold You. Sex, Love and Reggae will feature an all-star cast of artists and producers including Diplo, Jerry "Wonda" Duplessis, Linton "TJ" White, JusBus, Stanley "Rellee" Hayden, Shane Brown and more.
