Fabian Marley Joins the Fight Against Domestic Violence

While he’s not as famous as some his siblings Fabian Marley the eldest son of Reggae legend Bob Marley is keen on delivering his musical message to the world. “I am the first son for Bob Marley, Ziggy and I was born the same year but of different mothers, I was born a few months before him.

Over the years I was never concerned about exposing myself to the world. I was more concerned about learning my craft, my father’s spirit is always around me and he has told me to rise up now, go forward and do the works. A lot of the elders from Trench Town know me and have guided me in the music and it’s time for the world to know me,” said Fabian Marley. Fabian Marley has been involved with music since he was a child; his first foray into music came via the sound-system route in his early teen age years.

“Music has always been a part of my world, I grew up surrounded by music, by the time I was 13 I began deejaying on a sound-system called Lover’s Choice. When I was 16 I joined a band called Sounds of the Rainbow. From that point I got deeper in music, as I was fortunate enough to be able to be around the Skatalites. These great men of music taught me how to write and the compose music. Being around the Skatalites was a great experience.”

Fabian Marley is confident that his time to shine will come as long as he remains dedicated to his craft and continue to do the work he says his father has commanded him to do. “As you know blood thicker than water, my brothers and I are close and I am happy for their success in music and I know in time we will work together, but right now, I have to do my works.

My musical help comes from my team that Rastafari has formed for I. My team is composed of several people from Jamaica, Africa, Europe, the UK, the United States and Canada, people like Sandyu Sandstormz and All Fruits Productions,” said the artiste. Fabian is currently working on the completion of an album titled Nature Valentine. So far he has released 3 singles off the album, Plant Some Peas, Island Jamaica and Nah Go Sey Mi Poor. “The album is coming together nicely, it is scheduled to be ready before the end of the year. Right now we are promoting three singles off the album; these tracks are getting some good support right now from DJs all over the world.”

An accompanying music video for Plant Some Peas was recently released. The music video which was directed by Courtney Winter is currently enjoying strong rotation. Also in the works for Fabian Marley are a number of overseas engagements in Canada and Uganda later this year. Reggae music fans in Jamaica will get a chance to see him in action before he travels for his overseas engagements, as he is slated to perform at the White House Culture Jam on 17th of August.

“I am booked to perform at the Whitehouse Culture Jam and I am really looking forward to this show because of what it represents. First of all it will take place on Marcus Garvey’s birthday, that’s of great significance for I and I. Secondly the show is being staged to raise funds to fight against domestic violence and I am happy to play my part in this fight. We must all do everything we can to bring about an awareness of the importance to stop domestic violence,” he said.
