Konshens Hit The Cover Of Island Stage Magazine

As an artist one hopes to make musical impact in music that will be heard around the world, stand the test of time, and such is Konshens path.

Island Stage magazine recently had the pleasure of an in depth interview with the coy and reserved dancehall and reggae star Konshens. The artist opened up and spoke of his beginning, first time touring, fatherhood, soccer, the state of reggae and much more.

Island Stage Magazine "Where the Islands Come to Play" is a digital publication featuring World Music with heavy focus on Reggae, Rising Stars, Art, Travel, Culture, and of course, the veterans of the Music.

Konshens is steadily rising in the international mainstream category with a year marked with an appearance on American mainstream television, worldwide touring, records views of his various videos such as the more recent feature of his video "Music" on MTVIggy.

Throughout this in depth interview Konshens revealed a side of him not many may have known. Interviewer and writer Maliika Walker asked the questions not many have ventured to ask and Konshens did not hold back. Konshens spoke about being a ghost writer, his first studio experience at the late great Sugar Minott studio and the fact that he is a huge Beres Hammond fan. One of the roles, which Garfield 'Konshens' Spence holds very dear to his heart is fatherhood, which he states changed his perception and his choice words in his music.

Here is an excerpt: "Well the child really forces you to look at the world from a different angle in the sense that the hunger drive and the responsibility is something that pops up right in front of your face. You can't look past it, you can't look over it, but having a girl directly changes, well let me not speak generally, directly changed the way I look at women and how I deal with women and the things I say to woman. It changed everything and I'm like a counselor now. So I think my daughter has softened me up a little bit. Give thanks." The Dancehall star also reflects on the recent re-surgence of reggae and the movement so many now known as 'reggae revival' movement.

He looks at is as artists putting out good music but most importantly getting the support from each other. Konshens expressed his feelings about the Jamaican music industry and lack of artist development and constant criticism the youths receive in reggae and dancehall as oppose to support and direction from Jamaica. With so many projects in the works such as an upcoming single titled "Physically Fit" produced by acclaimed producer Russian, dancehall and reggae superstar Konshens remains firmly grounded "I am going to pay more attention to the balance of Konshens as a good artist."
