A debut album, and a new image, has given cultural female artiste Ruffi- Ann who is now sporting dread locks, a lot of confidence as she seeks to improve on her career, which spans over a decade.
Ruffi Ann, born Sharon Peterkin, has completed what she considers her “greatest studio effort” , a 16 track debut album titled In My Glory, which she believes will be well-liked by the public.
“This album is very good. I have three collaborations on it with veteran reggae artiste Max Romeo. It’s a culture vibe but there are also few up-tempo songs on it. Right now it’s all about positive music and that is exactly what you’ll find on my album. The public won’t be disappointed,” said the hard-hitting deejay.
The album was released six weeks ago on ITunes and the Portmore-based artiste said that the response has been very inspiring. “Nothing beats originality, and this is what I’m coming with on this album, so far the response from the public has been tremendous. I have been getting a lot of support for the single off the album called Forty Eight Years, that song is a song that speaks about the struggles that we the Jamaican people still have to face after 48 years of independence ,” she said.
Ruffi Ann said much emphasis was placed on the album, as it symbolizes her love and passion to deliver quality music for genuine music lovers. “It’s my production, I produced the album myself and you know how hard it is for female artistes in this business so I had to work twice as hard on it,” she added.
While she is grateful for the recent surge in her career, the hard-working mother of three believes more work needs to be done, as her ultimate goal is reaching the pinnacle of music business- and staying there.
“I see myself consistently sending out positive music. Again, it’s hard on female artistes but I’m not giving up. Day-by-day it’s getting better… I love the music but most times it’s me alone handling certain aspects of my career, so the music doesn’t come out that fast,” she said.
However, the deejay remains focused on the growth of her career, and is planning and hoping to get a breakthrough on the international market through her album, while promoting the hit single Forty Eight Years.
“I have another single set to be released soon but the focus is on Forty-eight Years, right now. I have a few shows coming up and I did St Mary Mi Come from recently so there’s nothing to complain about really, things are looking good for me”, said Ruffi-Ann.
