CARIBFEST- Celebrating Caribbean Talent!

Three Grammy winners are set to perform in Barbados on 9th January 2011 for the first ever Caribfest. Producer of the event Ronnie Morris, said the newest festival was in train for the past two years, and will be held the day after the Barbados Music Awards (BMAs).

As the name suggests, Caribfest will be celebrating the excellence of artistes throughout the region and Latin America. French Caribbean super group Kassav will be one of the key regional performers for this festival, representing the island of Martinique. Kassav has sold millions of albums and singles, particularly in Africa and mainland France where they have several Gold and Platinum certified albums. The group will also be presented with one of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards at the event.

Jamaica will be represented by million-selling dancehall star Wayne Wonder, known for his Billboard-charting smash No Letting Go, and the golden-voiced Tessanne Chin. Guyanese songstress Timeka Marshall, three time soca monarch winner of St. Vincent and the Grenadines – Skinny Fabulous, Montserrat’s soca songstress Jadine, Trinidadian R&B star Krystal Khayne, and others will join a powerful Barbadian line-up which includes soca king Edwin Yearwood and Soca Queen Alison Hinds, along with ragga-soca queen Natahlee and Barbadian star Peter Ramamong others.

The event will be hosted by Vivica Fox (Independence Day, Two Can Play, Soul Food etc) and Morris Chestnut (Takers, Two Can Play, Brothers etc), both major US actors.

The Caribfest Awards, which takes place on Sunday January 9th will be preceded by the Barbados Music Awards on Saturday, January 8th. The performance line-up for that event is just as impressive, with headliners including Deneice Williams, Tamia, the St. Leonard’s Boys 100 Boys Choir, Toni Norville, Anderson Armstrong, Mikey and more.
