Federation Sounds Presents The Flatlands Remix Project

Earlier this yearFederation Sound dropped their first official release, the Flatlands Riddim, with an all-star line up of artists. Well aware of the worldwide trend in dancehall music FederationSound have once again broken ground with the Flatlands Remix Project. MaxGlazer and Kenny Meez hand-picked a small group of influential producers andasked them to re-imagine the songs, their only direction being "gocrazy".

A first of it's kind, theFlatlands Remix Project takes all 12 songs from the original release and giveseach one a remix by a different producer in a totally original and uniquestyle. Also included are two bonus tracks - "Whining Queen" by DellyRanx on the original Flatlands riddim and Max Glazer's "Brooklyn DubMix", an old school style dubbed out version of the instrumental track.

Raine Seville Releases Hot New Tracks

Singer Raine Seville is making her presence felt with the release of three new music videos. The singer last week shot the video for her song Listen produced by ZJ Chrome on his Cardiac Bass Riddim.

The video was directed by newcomer Roli and shot in Cherry Hill and Downtown. Although the song was released last year, Raine believes the song is still popular with her fans all over the world. She said, “The song shows the more conscious side of Raine Seville.

The video itself is a simple yet very effective concept, which plays on the lyrics of the song. In the video a girl who sleeps around and ends up with AIDS and a boy who idles and takes up gun dealing ends up in jail. So the video is also conscious.”

Second video out soon is Showdown for Payday Music, which has been getting all the buzz in the streets. “Showdown has a buzz around it especially with the fact that I'm deejaying in it, so again it shows a different side of Raine. My lyrics are very powerful in the song so that will be brought across in the video,” she said. Roli will also direct the video this Friday. Last but not least is the Bedroom Medley video from Payday Music. She added, “Bedroom Medley I can’t say much about the entire concept but my scene will show my appeal, confidence, high fashion, attitude as stated in my song on the riddim See Dem A Look".

Raine hasn’t released a music video since her popular Slippery When Wet and is excited to be back on the scene and in the faces of fans. According to the singer music videos are a good way to market an artiste and she is looking forward to their release.

Outside of that, Raine has been busy in studio and also as the new face of Euphoria Spa. Raine alongside Stacious is the brand ambassadors for the spa, which is located on Red Hills Road.

Jagra GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza

The year 2011 has been one in which recession has been the main profiler in the videolight and the production of mammoth dancehall shows has declined significantly. However, the promoters of the event which has what is arguably the longest title – Jagra GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza – have declared that recession or no recession, the show must go on.

Production is therefore in high gear for this eagerly anticipated calendar event, held annually at Independence Park, Black River, St Elizabeth. Now celebrating its 12th staging, the show will continue with the theme that heralded its mega successful 10th anniversary, ‘Caring and Sharing Through Music’.

“After much deliberation, we decided that it was appropriate to use the same theme as last year. We want to get this message home to the users and end users of the music just how important it is that we care and share through music, Happenings in the industry this year have provided a lot of food for thought and it’s about time we put value to our lyrics and how we say the things we say,” executive producer, George “GT’ Taylor, declared.

The promoter is still savouring the success of last year’s show, which pundits agree was the best show for the season, and which Taylor says was the best Christmas Extravaganza in the event’s history. He had words of commendation for the sponsors, in particular title sponsor Jagra, the artistes, the band, the production team and, of course, the patrons.

GT has promised that there will be lots of Christmas cheer for ‘Extravaganza’ patrons come December 25, 2011. Asked if he would be jumping into his Santa Claus suit which is gathering dust, his answer was a decisive “No”. He did point out, however, that Old St Nick comes in many forms and the sponsors will be sure to have goodies to give away, while the artistes will deliver special entertainment packages to their fans.

As a matter of fact, the artiste line-up sports all the big – and not-so-big – names in reggae/dancehall music. Among them are Mavado, Bounty Killer, I-Octane, Coco Tea, John Holt, Spice, Romain Virgo, Hezron, Chuck Fenda, Twin of Twins, Macka Diamond, Wayne Marshall, Iley Dread, D’Angel, Lutan Fyah, Professor Nuts, Warrior King, Toya, Villa Dutch, Tiana, Specialist and a host of others.

Jagra Gt Taylor Christmas Extravaganza takes place on December 25 at Independence Park, Black River, St Elizabeth. Confirmed sponsors of the event include Jagra, Irie FM, CVM, Onstage, Outaroad.com and one876entertainment.com.

Uncle Jonny Releases New Album ‘Old School’

Dean Frazier, Uncle Jonny, Sugar Minott
Roots Reggae is a genre that focuses on live instrumentation as much as it focuses on the vocalist delivering thought provoking lyrics. Originators of Roots Reggae include Culture, Burning Spear and Toots and the Maytals. Canada’s Uncle Jonny adds 2011 nostalgia to the genre with the release of his album Old School.

Produced for Uncle Jonny’s own label Jon Strauss Productions, the album boasts the best in musicianship as the legendary Firehouse Crew lays the instrumentation live. Recorded at Bobby Digital Studio, Anchor Studio, Flava Studio and Judgement Yard, Uncle Jonny achieves musical success in keeping the feel of the album vintage, hence the album’s name.

Bridging the generation gap between lovers of Roots Reggae and the youth, Uncle Jonny recorded with Sizzla (“Hey Mr. DJ”), Gyptian (“Teach The Children”), and Luciano (“Move Over”) whose voices were brought to world attention via the same medium. “Recording with these Reggae greats was truly an honor” said Uncle Jonny from the famed Bobby Digital Studio on Ron’s road.

“Roots Reggae is a special genre that carries the spirit of Reggae’s ancestors which we must keep at the forefront, especially for the youth.” Each of the mentioned artists participated in the production of their respective tracks, capturing their love and appreciation for the music and genre as much as Uncle Jonny’s. When reached by telephone, Luciano said “Jonny’s passion for the music is good to see, and good to hear. His genuine love for the music will reach all corners of the world.”

Uncle Jonny’s lead single, “Jamaican Girls” was released to L3’s network of DJ’s last week and met with positive feedback from the UK, Europe and Canada. The song hears the singer confirm what Jamaicans already know which is Jamaican girls are the best girls in the world!

In addition to giving fans authentic Roots Reggae, Uncle Jonny also gives fans dub cuts which are recorded live and serve as the perfect enhancement to an already fantastic album. The album is available on iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/ca/artist/uncle-jonny/id473559646?v0=WWW-NACA-ITUHOME-TOPMUSIC&ign-mpt=uo%3D2

Right now all I need to do is to continue to work hard to achieve my goals.

In a bid to achieve greater commercial success the talented artist who began his career as a deejay has changed his focus, as most of his new material features him utilizing a singjay style. Snatcha said the move is a deliberate one and one that he hopes will win him more fans both at home and abroad.

“I started out in the business in as a deejay but I have decided to change my style in order to appeal to a wider audience. As an artist you have to be versatile and since Jah bless with the talent to deejay and sing I am using both of them to get my message across to the people.

Snatcha is currently promoting his latest single titled Ego which was produced by veteran producer Philip ‘Fattis’ Burrell for his Exterminator label. The song was released a few weeks ago and has been getting very strong support from several popular radio DJs locally including IRIE FM’s Elise Kelly.

“My fans love the vibes I bring across on Ego, this song is getting a lot of buzz on radio and in the streets right now. From the look of things Ego is going to be a very big tune, I can feel it, everywhere I go people are telling me they love it.

'Gregory Isaacs: African Museum & Tad's Collection Vol. II'‏

New Album Supports Gregory Isaacs Foundation and Anti-Drug Campaign‏

In memory of Isaacs, who died of lung cancer on October 25th, 2010, Tad’s and African Museum will donate a portion of the album’s sales to the Gregory Isaacs Foundation, founded on July 15, 2011, which would have been Isaacs’ 60th birthday. The foundation will support basic education and children’s charities in Jamaica.

"The foundation will be offering assistance to the St. Barnabas Basic School in Fletcher's Land, the first school Gregory attended. We will be donating 2 toilets and a wash basin," says June Isaacs, adding that the foundation will also be "donating school supplies and maybe a computer to Black Harmony Basic School in St. Catherine, and clothes and groceries to the Walkers Place of Safety in Kingston, which were institutions that Gregory assisted in his lifetime."

In addition to foundation, Ms. Isaacs will utilize Gregory Issacs - The African Museum & Tad’s Collection Vol. II to launch an anti-drug campaign in the coming weeks, which will warn children of the dangers of illegal drugs. Gregory Isaacs’ career was shrouded by a crippling addiction to cocaine, which caused irreparable damage to his voice and led to over 20 arrests for drugs and drug-related crimes.

"Drugs are a debasing weapon," Isaacs told The Telegraph in 2007. "It was the greatest college ever, but the most expensive school fee ever paid – the Cocaine High School.”

Castafari Hits With "Up Before Sunrise"‏

Jamaican Reggae and Dancehall artist Castafari is not new to the industry. Cas, as he is more commonly called, has been performing for the past 15 years, and saw successes with the release of his songs “They Don’t like It,” “100%,” “So Lovely,” and “Steal My Joy.” Growing over the years, Cas has a new album, new vision and is focused on engaging his fans with his newest single “Up Before Sunrise.”

Taken from his album Just Life, “Up Before Sunrise” speaks for the men in the world who wake up every morning to go to work, and enjoy the company of their significant other before leaving home. Commenting on the song from Hit Quarters Studios where the artist does the majority of his recording, he said “I wrote this song because there are so many men out there who go to work every day and enjoy intimacy with their wife before leaving through the door.”

Castafari’s slick lyrical play on words has listeners singing the chorus which says: “up before sunrise / praise the most high / and take a look inna your brown eyes / then I play between both thighs / make a move towards the sunshine….”

Putting visual to the lyrics, the video for the song was shot on location in Vietnam and features Cas as the lead male who sweetly embraces his lady in the morning before setting about on his day. The video’s director, Andre Collins, was pleased with the final results saying “Vietnam and Jamaica are similar in climate so we achieved what we wanted visually. The video is natural, which is what we wanted to achieve.”

The video, which can be seen on www.CastafariMusic.com or www.YouTube.com/CastafariMusic , has been enjoyed by over 5,000 viewers and rapidly growing since its release a few months ago. Fans can stay up to date with Castafari by following him on Twitter @Castafari

I-Octane Release Hot New Single, Gears Up for Barbados Debut‏

When it comes on to hitting the right conscious musical notes, singjay I-Octane seems to have found the right formula. That is a proven fact with numbers such as Lose A Friend, My Life and the ganja loving Puff It. But there is no easing up as the Digicel Brand Ambassador is once more at it, this time with Burn Dem Bridge.

Ever since it hit the airwaves it has been receiving a steady buzz, it has even caught on already in parts of the Caribbean as evidenced by the eager response he got from his recent performance in St Kitts.

Listening to Burn Dem Bridge it is easy to figure out why it has been embraced by music listeners. Recorded to a catchy beat I-Octane chants “Tek up inna tings dem neva ask the Lord fah, it’s not a laughing matter, ungratefulness causes disaster… dem burn dem bridge..”

The song comes with the singjay trademark philosophy on life and his stance on living it. Burn Dem Bridge was produced by Big Ship’s Stephen Di Genius McGregor and sees singer and producer working together for the first time.

I-Octane commenting on the song says he likes the vibes he has been receiving since its release. He can’t wait for the video to be done as he says the director Mykal Cushine is already brimming with ideas regarding it.

“The video should have been shot from last week, but rain played havoc with that plan,” the singjay said in a release. He explained that the shooting date has now been pushed back to this week, “It will be worth it though,” he promised.

Following the video shoot, I-Octane will be gearing up for another first – performing in Barbados at the Midway House Car Park on October 29. “I am really looking forward to winning over new fans and giving my fans there a treat,” he quipped about his upcoming gig.

New Trend Amongst Young Dancehall Procedures‏

For the past few years the dancehall scene has been completely dominated by the likes of Vybz Kartel and Mavado. Almost all the rhythms going out had either one, or in some cases, both of the entertainers featured on it. It is clear that the thinking amongst the producers was that these men were needed to guarantee the success of the project. However, one listen to the recent releases from emerging producers and you will see that is clearly no longer the case.

Young producers seem to be more focused on releasing quality productions that display their skills and create awareness about them. They no longer see the need to get a brand name artist on the project as they are finding that going that route is simply too costly. Digital Sham, owner of Digitalize Records and Phamily Productions is one such producer who shares that belief.

Since the start of 2011 Digital Sham has released two rhythm driven albums both collectively featuring the likes of Fyahkin, Dexta Daps, Harry Todler, Unicorn and a host of others. He has just released his third album for the year and again has decided not to invest in any of the big brand name acts. His latest album entitled, Hill Top Riddim, features himself, Karamanti, Ju Ju Irie and few others.

Sham believes that the cost of getting more established artists on the projects are just too much for the upcoming producers. And unfortunately, getting the big names does not mean that you will get record sales or mass amount of downloads. Most producers now prefer to put the money towards promoting the songs, as that is also very costly these days.

JCHF, which recently announced their merger with Chain of Hope Jamaica, has conducted pediatric cardiac surgical missions to Jamaica over the past twelve years. The recipients of this cost free life saving surgery were as follows, 93 children under the heading of CHMA and 31 children to date under JCHF, totaling 124 recipients to date. Their mission, "to facilitate and address the urgency reflected in the increasing, rather than decreasing list of infants and children with congenital heart disease in Jamaica."

Remarks Stephen "Cat" Coore, "The band is delighted that we will be able to give fans, whom are not able to travel to LA to see us perform, the opportunity to watch via live stream. This will be our second time streaming our performance. Last May we hosted an informal online only rehearsal, which was streamed live on www.ination.tv/thirdworldbandlive and www.thirdworld.com. I saw the numbers first hand and it was a tremendous success. At that time, to be able to reach fans worldwide, premiere our video "The Spirit Lives," and show a preview of the making of the video for single "By My Side," featuring Tessanne Chin was just groundbreaking. We are confident that the numbers will double this time around and in the process, support a cause dear to our hearts, the Jamaican Children's Heart Fund."

‘Nothing But The Love of God,’ Says Prodigal Son

Gospel artiste Prodigal Son confesses that he has the love of God boiling up and coursing through every cell in his body. And as a way of expressing that uniquely intimate relationship with his Maker, the artiste has penned a song like no other. Entitled Love Me Like This, the single on his very own Radikal Prodigal label, is as confounding as it is enticing.

Amid all debate about the edginess of the song, one thing is crystal clear, Love Me Like This is a love song. However, the question that arises is: Love for whom? Is Prodigal Son expressing his love for a God who loves him unconditionally – the agape type of love? Or is he pouring out his passionate love for a woman – the eros?

“This is definitely all about my love for God. This is my testimony,” Prodigal Son says without even a hint of a smile. As a matter of fact, with all that is being said about the single and its inappropriateness for church worship, the artiste refuses to go into defense mode. Prodigal Son instead takes time to quietly emphasise the fact that “all love is from God and of God” and that church music is always evolving.

“As one who ministers to souls, I have to find creative ways to speak to this generation in particular … Generation X as it is called … to get their attention and get them to focus on God. We all know the power of music and I consider myself a vessel through which this music is passed,” Prodigal declared.

A quick listen reveals that the writing is quite clever and there are certain expressions and phrases contained in Love Me Like This that are at best ambiguous, and at worst, downright steamy. It starts out with a line from the Minnie Ripperton’s mega hit single, “Loving you is easy cause you’re beautiful” and then the expressions of undying love move from strength to strength with graphic descriptions.
And, even though the artiste admits, Love Me Like This can be listened to on two levels, Prodigal Son says that, like many Christians who listen to and love the song, he sees God shining through the lyrics.

“It is my love song to a loving God. Rather than take a secular love song and turn it into a Christian song, like some singers do, I have chosen to dedicate a love song to the Father. It could be considered my personal rededication to God, which is really something that, as Christians, we need to do daily,” Prodigal said.
And, as he says so passionately at the end of the song, “Lord God, you have mi heart.”

Karamanti Sends Letter to Fans and Supporters

Female sing jay, Karamanti has decided to advance her career by ensuring that she has more of a public presence. She recently sent the following letter to her fans and supporters:

Greetings my friends, I just wanted to personally touch base to let you know that I have officially released Karamanti Mix Volume 2 – “the most underrated from then to now”. This is 18 of my songs that I think reflects the fact that I am truly underrated as a lyricist in the reggae/dancehall industry.

This is not a mix CD or anything, it’s all-individual tracks so DJs can download and have the music to spin. It features older stuff as well as a whole bunch of songs recorded and released this year. Here is the download link: http://www.mediafire.com/?6tx39zg10qs3xu8 Feel free to share this link with your mailing list.

Also wanted to let you know that I have reconnected with Triple Crown of Blessed Coast Sound out of Bellingham so this means an official mix CD is coming soon! Last year him and I got together and did the Transition mix CD and that was crazy so I am anticipating great things with this new project. Here is a link to download some songs recorded specifically for this project: http://www.mediafire.com/?sb2fbobq8rrviv2

Finally, as you may already know I run a full-blown PR company and that is the reason I have not been pushing my career as an artist. I am pleased to let you know that I have hired someone that I am confident can takeover and run the company so this will afford me the luxury of just being an artist. So all I can say is “pay attention cause I’m gonna turn it up now”.

Thanks for all your continued support and be sure to link me on all my respective social sites. Here are the links:

Singing Melody Releases Video for Collide

With the global success of Singing Melody’s song “Collide” Shem Music Group has just released the video, adding momentum in market anticipation for the January 17th, 2012 release of the artists forthcoming album ‘They Call Me Mr. Melody.’

The video, shot entirely on location in Kingston, Jamaica, flows with the theme of a couple who is separated due to a mistake made on the part of the man. That mistake sees his in jail for some time, causing both he and his girl to reflect on happier times they experienced together. Singing Melody is the driving force throughout the video as his character drives the bus which connects the memories from the past, with the reconciliation of the future.

While on the set of the video shoot, Singing Melody was asked why he played the role of the bus driver, and not the male lead to which he replied “I liked the idea of me driving the bus because of what the bus represents in the video and to the theme of the song. The bus is just as important as the couple going through the difficulty!”

The video’s director, Asha McHail, from Far Eye Films, achieves video and cinematic success as audiences are held to the story displayed in every second of the video whose run time is 4:17. Ce’Cile Goes App For JAMAICANIZATION‏

Top flight reggae/dancehall artiste Ce’Cile has gone APP for her new album JAMAICANIZATION. The artiste has decided to make the album available via application download at the Android Market and at the iPhone App Store.

When asked why she chose this mode to get her album out Ce’Cile revealed: “You have to always be on top of technology, to get to the fans. At every turn there is something new that’s being done and you will get left behind if you can't keep up, my agent and I decided we would venture into the APP world also because I myself am always on my iPad downloading APPS, so I am happy my own music can be acquired this way”.

For fans who wish to use APPs to download Ce’Cile’s JAMAICANIZATION can go to the Android Market, the iPhone AppStore, search for JAMAICANIZATION, click download and you will be in musical heaven or go to www.jamaicanization.com for all the details.

ABOUT JAMAICANIZATION

With her new album “JAMAICANIZATION”, Ce’Cile again delivers a balanced musical meal with a mixture of sound selector MC’d intro’s and appetizer interludes. She warms up your palate with one-drop reggae tracks and gives you the main course over upbeat dancehall with bold dance floor hits as your desert. The entire album leaves you with the sense you’ve tasted a full plate of Jamaican culture.

Out of the 16 songs that comprise this album, 13 tracks are exclusive to the album - a departure from the norm in Dancehall Reggae albums. German’s top urban producer, Ben Bazzazian produced 9 tracks on the album which is monumental for a Dancehall Reggae artist. Notably, Ce'Cile is co- producer on these songs. Kicking off the album with the song Where You Want Me immediately demonstrates a softer Ce’Cile and is one of the tracks produced by Ce’Cile herself.

When Your Gone, recorded with producer Chrome over a beat created by Christopher Birch (credit’s include Shaggy’s HOT SHOT album), is laced over a one-drop foundation that is beautifully delivered with a message resonating with all women who have wistfully fallen for someone and either lost them or found them with someone else.

The album also features several other songs which are bound to be favourites around the world and includes collaborations with Christopher Martin, Million Stylez and Agent Sasco (Assassin).

ABOUT CE’CILE

Her hard work has left her footprints all over the Caribbean, America, Japan, Australia, Europe, and Africa – where she is one of most in demand Reggae acts. Each year Ce’Cile frequents the renowned festivals in Europe, performing at: Geel, Summer Jam, Rototom, Dour, Splash, Chiemsee Reggae, Juicy Beats, Sziget and more.

In Germany alone, Ce’Cile has beaten out mainstream acts like Black Eye Peas, Ray J, Eminem, Kid Cudi and Genuwine for the number one position on the Black German music charts. This groundwork in the German market has led to crossover hits like: Rude Bwoy Thug Life and Hot Like We; a song which was repackaged in a Bravo Black Hits compilation and boast video viewership of over 1.5 million views on YouTube.

One of Ce’Cile’s more popular songs in Europe, Talk Talk was recorded on a remake of one of House producers Blank & Jones riddim creations. In the UK, Ce’Cile reached the #20 position in their POP Charts in 2010 with Gold Dust produced by DJ Fresh from London. Various mixes of these songs has garnered over 11 million hits on youtube http://youtu.be/PEbJ4qLiMu0 and video viewership is over 10 million http://youtu.be/RNuUgbUzM8U

Overall Ce'Cile has managed to secure collaborations throughout her career with elite artists including; Trina, Shaggy, Timberland, Beenie Man, Elephant Man, Sean Paul, Lady Saw, Olivia and many others. Ce'Cile has come this far by doing things her own way, in her eyes being true to herself and her music is why she is Jamaica's most loved Bad Gyal. Such an uncompromising attitude makes Ce'Cile truly an original voice.

JAMAICANIZATION is a full throttle effort at bringing Jamaican culture to a worldwide audience while introducing a deeper, sexier more mature sound based on the growth Ce’Cile has undergone as an artist the last several years. JAMAICANIZATION has something for everyone.

REVIEWS

" This song (How We Living) signifies how thought provoking Cherine's songwriting skills really are, taking us back to the notable "Kingston State of Mind." The track is an eye opener on the serious issues faced by many on a daily; injustice, family issues, crime and violence, poverty, and desperation....I particularly like how the music brings the lyrics to life. This is seriously heart wrenching but is my favorite."
- Embrace You Magazine, UK

"The acoustic gem "How We Living," meanwhile, allows Cherine to cast a compassionate eye over the heart-rending socio-economic landscape with sympathetic lyrics."
-Tallawah Magazine, Jamaica

"...listening to it (JA9.25) while i'm writing and it puts me in such an irie mood. You should go to her site and download it right now. My favorite tracks are Fade 2 Black, We Don't Stop and "How We Living"...I rate this artist BIG!!! "
- MissGaza.com

"After years of swallowing a lot of good-girl pills, Cherine is saying exactly what's on her mind. And this newfound religion is stamped all over her stellar and varied new mixtape, JA 9.25, which shares the date of her birth.Packing 15 tracks, the release is equal parts mesmerizing alternative reggae and scorching, if melodious, dancehall fire."
-Tallawah Magazine, Jamaica

"Cherine's sounding stronger than ever; she's on fire and the flames continue to ignite track after track...it's supposed to be a gift ( to her fans) but this should definitely be selling on iTunes, Amazon, and all the other digital music sites. "JA9.25" is very appealing and represents how superbly talented Cherine Anderson is. There's depth, sincerity, originality, variety, and conscious music to fill the air and keep us entertained and informed. Her incomparable creative skills are remarkable and absolutely not affected by the passage of time. It's truly a privilege to have someone of her magnitude share her music with us. "JA9.2" gets a rating of 5/5"

Damion and Howard Determined To Reform the Reggae/Dancehall Industry

In a recent interview on Bess 100 fm, brothers, Damion and Howard Hinds announced their intentions to transform the Reggae/Dancehall industry for the better. The brothers who hail from the Sea view Gardens community recently released their latest rhythm driven project, entitled Betta Way on their own D’Ave Productions label. Their reason for titling the project Betta Way is their belief that the Reggae/Dancehall industry is riddled with corruption and upcoming artists within the genre is in desperate need of a better way.

Some of the points raised by both men were; the length of time it takes for new artists to get a break in this industry. “With rap and other genres every year you see new artists coming on the scene but with our industry you see a new artist get a break maybe every five years”, states Damion Hinds. They went on to say that D’ Ave Production (Detroit Avenue Production) was conceptualized and manifested in May 2010, with the hopes of giving emerging talents that opportunity to get their big break. Most if not all their rhythms will feature young, upcoming artists as oppose to already established ones.

D’Ave Production has been having its challenges but the men are bent on attaining success for both themselves and the young artists of Jamaica.

Hapilos Re-Signs Gullyside’s Flexxx

Dancehall artiste Flexxx ‘s fresh musical concepts and unique flair has paid off. Not only has this translated into increased concert bookings, but also a much-coveted management deal courtesy of international powerhouse, Hapilos Entertainment Group.

The recording contract, also outfitted with a brand new BMW as a signing bonus, is another feather in the hat of the Alliance and Gully Squad artiste known for his songs, Fresh, Gullyside College, Have Weh Fi Gih Mi, and others. Flexxx, who recently returned to the island after a successful East Coast tour of the United States alongside fellow dancehall star, Mavado, says he is happy with the evolution of his career and the loyalty of his Haplios Entertainment team.

“Hapilos Entertainment has been my official management team for over a year now. The initial agreement was for a one-year deal, like a ‘feeling-out period’,” says Flexxx, whose correct name is Omar Henry.

He added, “That one year has now come and gone. Upper management liked what they saw so I was invited to New York to sit and talk with them. The result was a beefed up extension of my contract…I love working with Hapilos Entertainment because it’s not a company where anybody can just run in and force the timing. They take their time and do their groundwork and when the time is right they make things happen the right way.”

According to Peter Sims, General Manager of Hapilos’ Jamaican operations, “Flexxx is a great artiste with a lot of potential. It was no problem reworking and extending his contract. We know that signing bonuses are seldom heard of in Jamaica especially for a young artiste like Flexxx, but we believe in investing in our artistes so they can reach their maximum potential. It’s the Hapilos way.”

Johnny Wonder, Executive Vice President of 21st/Hapilos Digital Distribution spoke similarly: “Flexxx’s re-signing to Hapilos Entertainment is the natural thing to do. Now it’s time to focus on his great talent. Both as an artiste and songwriter and allow the world hear more.”

As further proof of Flexxx’s focus, he also walked away with the Music Industry Achievers Award for “Best Songwriter” and also received a nomination nod for “Most Determined Artiste” at the awards.

In addition, Flexxx who released the new single, Me Seh Weh Mi Wah Seh, will be re-joining Mavado on his West Coast tour of the United States, which they are confident will reap as much success as their East Coast tour.

He says, “It’s so hard to break my focus right now. Music is what I love and I’m definitely pushing ahead to not only get Flexxx the artiste out there, but also be another artiste that the industry, my Hapilos team and my fans can be proud of while I rep them on the local and international stage.”

Spice Spills all About Her ‘Boyfriend’

It’s not Tom, or Harry who has caught dancehall artiste, Spice’s eye – it’s Dick.

The humorous, pun-filled song, My Boyfriend, Dick, released only a few days ago on producer, Seanizzle’s Sunrise riddim, has already garnered raised eye-brows, laughs and more importantly increasing airplay. My Boyfriend, Dick tells of Spice’s affection for her fictitious boyfriend of that name, and she says, “The idea came to me when I heard the beat.

It just popped into my head and I built a song around it. It’s definitely a fun song and I know there are some persons who will misread the title, but it’s just a fun play on words. I try to make my songs fun, with vivid imagery and sometimes with lots of puns that the fans will love.”

Spice, whose correct name is Grace Hamilton and a past student of the St. Catherine High School, says drama and poetry were among her favourites in high school, “So that has definitely impacted what I write and sing about and how I put my music together. My dramatic background definitely comes out in my performances and stage show fashion. It’s that kind of love for the arts that led me to the Edna Manley College, but I opted to forego that and went straight into music as a career instead.”

In addition to My Boyfriend, Dick, Spice’s single, Hot Patty Wine, produced by her management team, Movers and Shakers Ltd., has been slowly making its way through parts of Africa. “That song has both an Afrocentric feel to it plus aspects of dancehall, and those are both things which an African fan-base love. I’ll be there very soon, plus I have another surprise up my sleeve for my African fans – so they can definitely watch out.”

Ce’Cile FliesThe Reggae Banner

Few Jamaican artistes have been able to consistently churn out relevant material locally, maintaining a large and loyal fan base while at the same time having an international appeal, Ce’Cile is one. Known as the Bad Gyal of Jamaican music, Ce’Cile is fresh and clean with a new album called Jamaicanization, New Videos and new dancehall tracks which will be essential to any popular DJ’s playlist.

LOCAL APPEAL

Over the past months the artiste has maintained her presence locally with dancehall tracks such as Woot Woot (Smoking Riddim), Pree Mi (Blaze Fia Riddim) and more recently Tip Me (Green Faces Riddim) While on the reggae side she has released heavy hitters like When you’re Gone (Cardiac Bass Riddim), Rise Up (Message Riddim) and Missing You (Monte Carlo Riddim). These are just some examples of how this musical dynamo straddles both the Reggae and Dancehall genres effortlessly. The artiste has just recently premiered the video for When You're Gone / Missing You.

Not only has Ce’Cile been dominating the local airwaves with some hot tracks but she has also been present on the local stage being a crowd puller at shows such as Reggae Sumfest 2011, LIME Fashion Nite Out, LIME ‘Skool Aid’ and several other locals shows. Reggae France quips: “there is a practice almost become legion is laying as an album, a compilation of his series of interventions on the riddims. But it will not happen here, the beautiful Jamaican has not paid the head of his public: of 16 titles, 12 are completely new!”

Jamaicanization has also been doing well on the charts. Two of the songs on the album; Step Aside (Beep Beep) and Singing This Song are currently number ten and eleven on the MTV German Black Charts.
